We are ... not good. The coaches are not good, the offense is not good, the defense is not good and the special teams are not good. I'll say it again, it's hard to see where another win comes from except $C when all bets are always off.
Yuk. At least we covered the spread. We have coming up Oregon, Penn State, and Minnesota. So we will be dogs in each of our next 3 games and we probably are looking at a record of 1 - 5 on October 12th.
People keep saying Fresno State is a winnable game or our best chance to win. Uh...Fresno State usually beats far better Bruin teams than this one, like in 2021.
I actually thought Bienemy came in with a good game plan, but our defense just let the offense down. They gave up multiple long drives of 90+ yards which kept LSU’s defense fresh for the entire second half to shut down our offense. Lots of positives to build on for the offense. On D maybe we need a new coordinator already
The team looked improved today. However, it's difficult to win without talent in the trenches. After last week, I was predicting a 1-11 season. After today, I could see 1 or 2 more possible wins
I noticed the O ran a stretch play left that gained huge yards....and never ran it again!!? The D is just....terrible. Absolutely no pressure , no push, just an Absolutely comfortable unit for offenses to operate against. I thought the offense was improved in terms of Garbers and the receivers, but O line can't pass block, or generate push in between the tackles running plays. And this was them showing improvements!. The D needs a new plan, like immediately
Mahomes couldn't win behind UCLA's current offensive line. We've got the former-PAC12's leading rusher, and he gains paltry yards on the ground in every game thus far? In the 70's there was a humorous poster, showed a guy with his head up his posterior, and the caption "Your Problem is Obvious" - Every Oline guy parked on the bench deserves a shot. Further, give Justyn Martin some reps DeSahaun!! The guy has a cannon, is elusive, and is fast as hell!!
During the up to and including, the Donahue/Toledo years - even when they had overall weak rosters - the Bruins were ALWAYS able to bring in quality O-line beef. Much of that dynamic-of-the-past was in line with a once perennial powerhouse Track & Field Program (shot put/discus) - Not anymore!
A friend of mine's kid went to Culver City High School - earned second-team all CIF defensive back honors his Soph, Junior, and Senior years. He walked on at UCLA during the Dorrell years and made the team. He then proceeded to polish pine.....
For his junior junior year, he transferred to Tulsa and was named Honorable Mention All-Conference USA his senior year.
The key here is "the Dorrell years", poor coaches don't recognize talent. Now in the Donahue years, he did, because he was a walk-on himself and in fact, he treated all walk-ons to the program quite well and he did discover some "gems". Not sure where Foster is as opposed to Donahue and Dorrell. I'm thinking due to his lack of experience, he's more on the Dorrell side of things, unfortunately.
you cant put in bench players just for the sake of putting in "hungry guys" (whatever that means). This particular bench has no talent whatsoever. It's not like we have a bunch of 4 stars waiting around for their shot.
Really glad to be able to be in the stadium for this experience - being in that lower corner with a concentrated group of enthusiastic Bruins reminded me of being in the old alumni section leading our own cheers... we could also learn a lot about the in-game presentation experience...
Seeing it live, we looked like an actual competent P4 football team for a half for the first time - plays with quickly developing patterns were effective but anything that took longer to develop was doomed by the ineffective o-line. Other than still not realizing that it is apparently legal to throw passes to a tight end, the defense held in against more talent... I don't know if they wilted in the heat in the 2nd half or talent took over or both but even if there's some progress, you can't surrender multiple 90 yard drives and average 1 yard per carry and win many games.
I was heartened by the game. Assume all the deficiencies are true. Lack of talent, inexperienced coaching, poor depth. We still were in this game. If the progression continues I think we have a solid team by the end of season. The boys worked hard and I wasn’t embarrassed to be a fan. It isn’t going to be a magical season, but I think the ceiling is higher than a lot of fans think. Of course I’ve been wrong many many many times. Go Bruins!
Both offense and defensive lines stunk. Again, we have a Bruin team lacking in purpose, intensity and urgency. Maybe they are overwhelmed by the pro style offense and defensive play required to do well. The second half they resembled a team lost on the field.
Well, UCLA now has a week to prepare for the Oregon Ducks at the Rose Bowl, their second Big Ten game. They also have two halves of football to work with, the first half against LSU and the second half against Hawaii. If they can put these two halves together, they may at least be competitive instead of getting blown out. Oregon will score at least 45, so to make it competitive, UCLA has to score more points in this game than they have all season in any game, at least 30 or more. Against Oregon, not seeing it. Right now, it looks like 48-14 Oregon, just hoping UCLA can at least upset the oddsmakers and score a few more times. Yes, I know, it's simply another L no matter the score, but as opposed to Indiana, this Big Ten L is expected to be pretty bad.
Wow, I got sucked in by the team's performance in the first half. Honestly, they look unconditioned. I think they just ran out of gas. I think their absolute biggest issue is no rush defense at all. The big guys they have rushing just get tired. Also, the offensive tackle play was so bad.

The punter was solid! :<] That's just sad that it's the biggest positive, holy cow....
the radio team was literally talking about this as if it was actually a positive
Yea, they "aren't good" either! LOL
radio team very solid.
Yuk. At least we covered the spread. We have coming up Oregon, Penn State, and Minnesota. So we will be dogs in each of our next 3 games and we probably are looking at a record of 1 - 5 on October 12th.
It's worse than that, we are currently dogs in every remaining game except Fresno State.
trust me, no 1-10 team is going to be favored against Fresno State.
People keep saying Fresno State is a winnable game or our best chance to win. Uh...Fresno State usually beats far better Bruin teams than this one, like in 2021.
Oh I'm aware, I was just going off the sportsbooks. I think we have a better chance sneaking one off Rutgers or Minnesota than we do Fresno St.

he integrated some of the plays that Chip Kelly ran... those were the ones that worked.

our o-line is terrible. giving guys who cannot crack the starting lineup a shot will just make it worse.
Aaron Rodgers began his career, buried on the bench
poor analogy
Not sure, sometimes the "hungry guys" can surprise you.

It's pretty obvious you never played football at any level.
