I think they got a lot of cred for their win over that jerk Midnight Mel and Mich St, but Sparty is proving to be pretty meh this year, so UW was probably over-ranked.
From the stands, it looked like there were actual adjustments after the first two drives (after Azz - who knew that "adjustments" were actually a thing?!) to send more pressure and all but ignore the run until we went into "prevent (you from winning)" in the 4th with a 24-point lead which let Penix get into rhythm... really glad we could come up with the "Big Boy" 4 minute drive and not give them the ball back!
UW has a very good offense. Even when they scored on the 2 drives, the D made them take a lot of time off the clock. The secondary tackled well. They didn’t give up a lot of yards after the catch.
Impressive showing by the defense like everyone was saying. DTR, Bobo and ZC were phenomenal yesterday. Concerned that we didn’t step on their necks at the end of the game to close it out, and I’m really worried about the D-line depth. My heart jumped into my throat when one of the Murphy twins went out with a possible wrist injury.
Utah will be a hell of a test next week, since they run a completely opposite style from Washington’s aerial attack.
Excited to see the Bruins return to the top 25 this week, but need to see the team maintain focus. They haven’t arrived yet
The two areas that worry me the most with this team are the OL and the pass defense, and both played much better than expected yesterday. The run game is typically solid but DTR had a good number of clean pockets with his straight drops and he was slicing and dicing the defense with that sort of time. That kid has really come of age (yes, age at 22 is a funny term ;-) ) That OL really kept the offense clicking all night long and they were the difference when the Bruins needed to eat the last 4 minutes of the game for the W. Also, the pass defense was very good after the first drive until the early 4th when I think the calls got pretty conservative. But they did more than enough in that time with pressures, 2 sacks, and 2 picks to cause a lot of Penix performance issues and let the Bruins get out to a big lead which they were able to milk in the end. DTR and Zach and Bobo deserve lots of praise, but this was really a great team performance by everyone.
I was also really worried about the DL since theres not many scholarship players left that arent injured, and we’re basically playing walk-ons or players converted from other positions, but I was really impressed by the pressure we put on Penix, sacking him 2x when he wasn’t sacked previously. I think that’s part of the reason why we saw so many blitzes and it helped to shut down their run game too
Agreed, when he had time to set up in the pocket, he was eating them up.
Washington was ranked #15? LOL.
OTOH, maybe that’s about right? Which means we have a legitimate win over a top twenty team!

Happy that we no longer have Jerry Azzinaro as D Coordinator. We playex solid defense for most of the game even with our limitations.

It’s a bruin tradition to go into prevent defense when up in the 4th quarter lol
But yea next weeks game will be interesting since Utah is currently dominating Oregon state
That wouldn’t be such a big deal, if we didn’t combine it with taking our foot off the gas on O. What happened to the no mercy Chip from Oregon?
Go Bruins! What a pleasant surprise to wake up to!
What finally got you kingjim, the time zone or the beer (or lack of it)?
Combo, I'm out near Boston and I'm ancient. Gregg
lol You and me both. I just have a time zone advantage.
Got home about 1 am. Quite a party! The 4th was a bit nervous though…

Great observations!

“Penix performance issues.” Love it. I think there’s medication for that.
I'm glad someone caught that.
I can’t wait until Penix faces off against the Beavers.
No Penix envy here.
