Gueye was non-existent in this game which shows how well our "bigs" played inside, along with the rebounding advantage. We are fortunate Jaime hit a few threes, as the lane under our rim was usually solid red. Bona had some of Jaime's batteries, too and stayed out of foul trouble.
Jaime shot 60% from 3 last night but if he shoots at a higher volume and can maintain at least 40%, I would say that could transform ucla into a top 2/3 favorite for the championship, provided the defense is up to early season level.
Agree, with JJ maintaining his defense and becoming a dual offensive threat will open up new opportunities for us. Everybody else needs to step up, too.
Hi folks, we got back home from Pauley amid heavy freeway traffic on 405 all the way till we exited on 210 in Pasadena. For a change, missus drove the entire way. That gave me the chance to read all your comments posted during the game. They are more or less what I would have said too - except one thing. None of you mentioned about how sharp Cronin looked in his form fitting light grey suit and brownish dress shoes. In fact, some of us jokingly teased him in the waning minutes of a victorious home game. Still focused on his players, he obviously heard the lady's voice, several seats away behind us. I can tell you a good coach can be good in feigning not to hear things too. Nothing showed on his face.
Man oh man, LOL !!!
Anyway, when we left, Westwood befits Belinda Carlisle's 80's hit " Heaven is a place on
earth ". Everyone was joyful, happy , high fiving. I did it to the young kid at the exit booth. He quipped
" I wanna tequila ! " and missus asked swiftly. " You're old enough ? ", to which everyone laughed. My all time bruin idol, Bill Walton, said it well. There is nothing a good win would not cure. And since it is the case, the order in the universe has been rightfully restored. These are his memorable words.
Everything clicked this afternoon at Pauley.. We were firing on all cylinders both offensively and defensively. The players, to a person, is back to their best form. Some good steals, some good passes, and those beautiful high arching three pointers delighted us. As the student band played the rousing UCLA fight song with the clock winding down, everyone cheered and clapped.
Cronin full of praise in the postgame for his teams attitude and intensity, and specifically credits assistant coach Palmer for coming up with the defensive game plan. He credits the defense that Tyger and Amari played and said of Jaime: “ I told an nba guy last night, if you want to win, put him on your team… coaches will love him, teammates will love him, just plug him in and play him”
Palmer was a reserve under Lavin or Howland ?!? I still remember him coming off the bench, scored a key basket or two at crucial moments. I wish our seniors nothing but the very best in whatever they do in life. Stupid Alford left the program in shambles. They came, started from scratch, helped right an iconic ship in NCAA hoops. Let’s raise our glass and toast !!!
That was a full game! Good to see bona stay out of foul trouble, amari making buckets, jaquez hitting the three ball, tyger getting assists, Clark playing with some intensity, and the subs getting some good play time too! Good work cronin… hopefully the mid season lull is in the rear mirror for the remainder of the year
Yahoo bracketology experts are so stupid. They have ucla as a 4 seed currently. Every single overall tracking metric has them as a top 10 team. Whatever… ucla still has a lot of games to go here. Two tough road trips and a tough home trip against the Arizona schools
“ Hungry dog gets the bone “ - This was what Cronin said to the media, apparently referencing his players’ time on the court. He also praised Jalen Clark effusively. Let’s build on the momentum going forward in the remainder of the season. I watched Texas against Kansas last night. Not impressed is my conclusion.
Did I miss something on McClendon? Not even garbage time in this game?
Sick all week.
Yep something’s going around. WSU was pretty short handed as well. Which worked to our advantage because Gueye played nearly 40 minutes against SC

Not enough suits in the coaching ranks. If you want to wear a track suit while coaching, go coach football. But look sharp on the basketball court.
Pat Riley?
Pat Riley appeared every quarterly on GQ magazine. Just kiddin’ Lol !!!

Interesting distinction from how he publicly dragged Tyger and Jaime after the UW game.
