Well, the 2020 Bruins look like they’ve picked up exactly where they left off in 2019.
The UCLA defense still looks bad and QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson continues to be a turnover machine.
In the first half, the Bruin defense gave up five touchdowns on eight Colorado possessions. Three of those scores came as the result of UCLA turnovers. The first turnover came on a Colorado punt when Kyle Philips fumbled. The Buffs recovered and promptly drove just 25 yard for the first score of the game.
On the Bruins’ next possession, DTR was picked by Carson Wells who returned the interception down to the UCLA 1. One play later, the Buffs made it 14-0.
After DTR hit Demetric Felton on a 28-yard touchdown pass with 1:12 left in the first quarter to cut the Colorado lead to 14-7, the Buffs drove 76 yards on 10 plays and it was 21-7. Three plays later, Thompson-Robinson fumbled to give it back to Colorado, but the Buffs couldn’t do anything with it this time and they punted away.
But on UCLA’s first play back on the field, Demetric Felton put the ball on the ground and Colorado recovered on UCLA’s 7-yard line. Two plays later, Colorado scored again to make it 28-7. The Buffaloes second long drive of the half followed a UCLA punt and CU moved 70 yards on 6 plays to move ahead 35-7.
The final score of the half came with 4:44 left when DTR hit tight end Greg Dulcich for a 52-yard touchdown pass after Colorado’s safety left Dulcich wide open.
Overall, the defense gave up 284 total yards in the half including 162 yards rushing and 122 passing yards.
Meanwhile, the Bruin offense could only muster a measly 9 yards rushing to go with Thompson-Robinson’s 146 yards passing.
The Bruins aren’t getting the job done on third down either. The offense is just 1 for 4 in third down situations while the defense gave up 4 first downs out of 8 third down situations.

jfc if you're going up the middle you can't snap it backward 5 yards to start the play and hand it to a RB who is standing still. Take the snap under center and hand it to someone going forward or run a QB dive. Moronic play call.
It's a great idea but I wouldn't trust DTRs arm and reads on a play like that. I would definitely trust him to run it as runfastandwin and I called for.
I keep critiquing DTR, but it's a lot more than just him tonight though. Too many penalties. Dumb play calls. Turnovers. The *efense is still utterly terrible. We were picked over CU in preseason polls. Not.
We may be glad it's a shortened season. Who wants to see 12 games of this?
Very little to like in what we've seen tonight. The disappointing senior QB is also the best thing on offense tonight? (Oh, maybe Felton). The world-class coach is going to continue to destroy our FB program.
Felton looks like he could be special, but there's no consistency around him. Other teams will earn quickly to just key on him and keep DTR from scrambling.
Well, I have one of my PGGs for next week. These Bruins have made a habit of making no-name players into household names over the last several years. This week it was Broussard. Which Utah player will have a career day against UCLA next week?

I gave up betting on UCLA years ago...I just don’t have the juice for it...considering our defense though I’d a thought 56.5 was for the Buffs!

Agreed. The fundamental flaws are so frustrating. He's a tough kid and a great athlete, but he ought to be so much more polished in his 3rd year.

Utah State fired their Coach after a 0-3 start tonight. Utah State has more pride in and expectations for their football program than UCLA.
