UCLA Bruins Look to Advance After 7-2 Win Yesterday

The UCLA Bruins softball team advanced to the Los Angeles Regional Finals yesterday by defeating South Carolina, 7-2. Later in the day, the Gamecocks defeated Cal State Fullerton, 4-2, to set up today’s regional finals. First pitch of Game 6 is scheduled for 4:30 pm PT and the game will be broadcast on ESPN. If South Carolina wins Game 6, Game 7 will be played to determine who advances because the regionals are a double elimination event and UCLA hasn’t lost yet this weekend.

Last Time Out

Yesterday, the Gamecocks got on the board first in the top of the second when Jamie Mackay homered to lead off the inning.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Bruin Bashers came out in force. Aleena Garcia led off with a walk and Bri Alejandre homered to give UCLA a 2-1 lead. Kaniya Bragg singled to center and a pair of doubles by Alexis Ramirez and Soo-Jin Berry scored both Bragg and Berry to increase the lead to 4-1. Berry’s double would prove to be the game-winner. Megan Grant’s 39th homer of the season scored Berry and gave the Bruins a 6-1 lead.

Quincee Lilio added a homer for the Gamecocks in the third, but Taylor Tinsley would shut down the South Carolina offense after that.

Garcia added another insurance run for the Bruins in the fifth inning with a solo homer.
