"Oh, No! We Suck Again!" This headline is wrong on so many levels. LOL. It's like being a dirty bird that never showers or baths, then putting on new clothes for a job interview, thinking you've achieved a whole new level of cleanliness/hygiene. The fact is that you're still a dirty bird underneath it all. Just like UCLA sucks, has sucked for the last 30 years, and sucks with the interim coach and JN as OC (don't get fooled by the meaningless W), doesn't change the fact that UCLA still sucks underneath it all. Until UCLA get serious about the value of sports by putting the rigth people in place, starting with the AD, getting the money right, and making a real commitment to being competitive, UCLA is finished/done as a respectable football program. No one in their right mind would come to UCLA - player or coach if things are not changed immediately - unless you are desperate for a chance or the only place to recruit you. UCLA is the joke of all college football .... the I-feel-sorry-for-my-friend-so-I-have-to-invite-him/her on the outting with me. I see Men's basketball going down the same path. At this rate, they will be embarrassed in the Big 10 if they don't get going. Fortunately, UCLA is one hell of an Olympic sport school - strip away those and we have 11 national championships for Basketball. Still respectable by a long shot. Wishing UCLA all the best, but I am no longer holding by breath. This train wreck has been in the works for the last 30 years.
The answer is very simple: win, be legit competitive and people will come. UCLA would fill the stadium if they were good team. It wouldn’t matter where they played. And, by winning , the Rose Bowl would be filled because people would buy tix. No one supports a loser. People want to be part of a winning team
It seems to be 💯 BS (I know that's not becoming 🤣) but 💯 BS it is, that UCLA cannot afford to buyout the slimiest Donut Head in the Universe, Jelly 2.0.
According to BRO, 247Sports, etc, UCLA allegedly plans to buyout the Rose Bowl lease at $60-$80 million... yes, $60-$80 million, and allegedly the deal is close to being done.
Add to that cool $60-$80 million, the financial damages that UCLA may be required to pay the Rose Bowl from the law suit, and of course this deal makes perfect sense.
And Inglewood is so much nicer than Pasadena 😠
Save a few miles, but not any time with traffic snarls, picnic on pavement on ONE parking lot - that will be fun in the heat, and then sit in a sterile corporatized stadium that has NO history, NO legacy, NOTHING connected to UCLA.
And Blockhead 2.0 is backing this??? If so, we are doomed.
If true, UCLA, it's Donut Heads, Donut Holes, Blockhead and Block Holes will have officially burned our greatness to the ground.
The UCLA Athletic Department Administration is a joke. If they can pay out their lease and the penalty for breaking the lease, then they can pay that asshat's buyout.
It used to be the case that tailgating at the RB was half the fun of going. Now, with current state of our football program, tailgating is the ONLY redeeming quality. Thank you so much, Block, Guerror, Kelly and Jarmond for decades of demise.
I tailgate in lot K, actually on the asphalt not even the grass, with a lot of other alums who have been there for decades.
Every single one I talked to yesterday said they would NOT continue to tailgate, and will probably not renew their season tix, if/when we move to SoFi. So, this genius plan to move has a high probability of backfiring. We had Kelly the OG (btw, how are those Raiders fans feeling at this point?) and now we have Jarmond, the FG - financial genius.
I definitely don’t think this is Jarmond’s idea. He always takes the cheapest and easiest way out when making decisions, and getting out of the RB lease and moving to Sofi is neither. This sounds like this is Julio Frenk’s doing because that’s the only way it makes sense that we suddenly have $80 million out of nowhere too.
With that said, the move will definitely make it easier for me and many other OC fans to attend the games since I already go to Chargers games quite often. UCLA would probably attract more fans at Sofi than Chargers still LOL
I don't think so. I really don't like SoFi that much. I don't know what it is, perhaps it just seems too large and its especially too large for UCLA. They'd never fill the stadium, not even against SUC and it would be more embarrassing than the partial crowds we all now are used to seeing at the Rose Bowl. It will be a more expensive deal than the Rose Bowl. Here is what UCLA should do. Stay at the Rose Bowl and spend all that extra cash on building a solid winning football program. If you have that kind of money hanging around, spend it on ALL Athletics, more so on Football, since football can give you some kind of substantial return on that money. But UCLA won't do that because they have someone in the AD's chair who is 100% clueless and worthless.
SoFi has about 30% fewer seats than the Rose Bowl so it might actually look more filled out.
I agree that $80million is much better suited to build out a football team. I think I read somewhere that schools are getting around the rule that they can’t directly pay students NIL, not sure what the rules are but if other schools are bending the rules that way, ucla should too. $80mil can field a competitive team for 3-4 seasons.
I don’t think Jarmond would prefer to do this SoFi move but my thinking is that he’s being ordered to by Julio Frenk.

Seeing as how it comes from the Waterboy, which is based upon a perennial cellar-dweller college football team, I find it an apt comparison :-)

This team is so inept.
so agree.
The news gets potentially much worse, imho.

What's next, Basketball moving to Intuit?
This is worse than SMDH 😡

Tailgating at the Rose Bowl is glorious, it's a big part of beloved tradition and so many memories. 🥲💔

If true, Frenkenstein is be a bigger Blockhead than the original Blockhead.
Did you take that headline from my halftime text to my Bruin buddies?
I've been to Chargers games and concerts at SoFi, only good thing would be shade for noon time starts in September. Period.
