UCLA Bruins Jump in Both Top 25 Polls
The Bruins are just outside the Top 10 after beating Utah yesterday.
Following UCLA’s big win over then-#11 Utah yesterday, the Bruins have climbed in both Top 25 polls.
The Bruins are now ranked 11th in the AP Poll and 12th in the Coaches Poll.
Utah fell from 11 to 20 in the AP Poll and from 11 to 19 in the Coaches Poll.
There’s a new number one team in AP Poll as Georgia took over the top spot. Ohio State moved up to number two. Alabama fell to third despite winning yesterday. The top three spots in the Coaches Poll remained the same as last week.
The rest of last week’s Coaches Poll Top 10 remained the same, but there were some changes in the AP Poll. Clemson moved to the fourth spot in the AP Poll, flip-flopping with Michigan. Tennessee jumped to sixth in the AP Poll passing Southern Cal and Oklahoma State. Finally, Ole Miss leaped from fourteenth to ninth, passing Penn State.
The only other Pac-12 schools in Top 25 include Oregon, UCLA’s next opponent, at 12 in the AP Poll and 11 in the Coaches Poll as Washington dropped out of both polls after losing to Arizona State.
Looking to the future, the only other Big Ten school in this week’s polls is Illinois, which is ranked 24th in the AP Poll.
Here’s the complete Top 25 from both polls:
UCLA has a bye this coming Saturday and will hit the road for just the second time this season when the Bruins take on Oregon on Saturday, October 22, 2022. The Ducks also have this Saturday off. So, both teams will have a chance to rest up and get healthy for the game.
Go Bruins!!!

Next up -- The Ducks ... in Autzen. Damn tough venue. It's been 4 years since the Ducks last lost at home. Most advanced metrics have UCLA, Oregon, Utah as very very comparable in terms of capability. Ducks wil be favored in this game - but it's not a pie-in-the-sky thought that the Bruins will come away with the W. Like the Utah game, I think the winner will be determined in a 3-5 minute stretch of the game -- when that happens and who wins that stretch is anyone's guess.
Right now, there is one game that matters on the Bruin's schedule. Circle the date - Sat, Oct 22, 2022.
#11 UCLA @ #12 Oregon.
Talk of any other game - is just plain dumb.
Kelly has never beaten Oregon (score was tantalizingliy close in 2020 (38-35) , 2021 (34-31), No contest in 2018, didn't play each other in 2019). - Oregon hasn't lost in over 4 years @ home. Let's change both of those statements!
Go Bruins!
Has Kelly finally awakened to the fact that his job is on the line and that time has come for him to show what he can really do ? His Oregon stint enthralled and enamored many. It earned him an NFL job even. How he fared then is moot, besides the point since other NCAA coaches also flubbed at the pros, the latest being Urban Myers. Also In that exclusive company is none other than Nick Saban.
That said, I am thrilled too at the latest win over Utah. It is about time my alma mater shows the country why we were dubbed the gutsy little bruins to begin with.
Gutsy ? Yes. Victorious ? So far. Will the momentum continue ? Hopefully. Little ? Our stature grows with each game and with each win before our eyes. To me, we are on a collision course with you know who, the swaggering Trojans led by their heralded new coach. They too are chomping at the bits to fight us and earn the right to say " who's your daddy ? "
The moment of truth will come on November 19.
Hold your plan for Thanksgiving until this game is over. If we beat them good, the dinner turkey would taste like nothing you ever had before. But heaven forbids, should we try and falter, it is life I guess. There is always the next Thanksgiving to look forward to.
