"Much more importantly, the Bruins have already matched last year’s win total."

..Also important is the fact that you won the "over" proposition, Joe! Congrats to the Bruins and to you as well!

On the other hand, perhaps with the Bruins' "D" still knitting itself together, it's fair to say that UCLA might be bringing back Track & Field to its dizzying array of athletics!

O happy day! Heard this somewhere:

"Go Bruins!"

😁👍

Hasten to add that JMU defeated SDSU handily, 26-13. It's gotta be a culture. Anyway, it's addictive!

Heck, UCLA almost covered the Over themselves, given that it was 52.5 points!

Good-o! Then your wagering escapades from now should be moderately plain sailing! Please remember us when you've amassed your fortune, good sir!

So Maryland may not be very good, with two opening wins against no competition, but with yesterday's home loss to Virginia Tech the calls are out for the coach's head. The type of away game after 3 wins the Bruins could walk through and bungle. I think Saturday will say a lot about Chesney's ability to motivate. Go Bruins!

Maryland should be a really good test of coaching since they are actually a lot like Purdue - really dynamic QB (threw for 300+ vs VaTech yesterday) with some experience and can't stop the run - add to that a cross-country road trip and the opportunity is there to show some real development and improvement on some of the shortcomings we've seen thus far... but as "late 90's Bruins" as that game seemed last night, we are certainly establishing an offensive personality and as someone once said: "personality goes a long way"

Thank goodness for 0.5 points. I dropped a ten spot on the Bruins at -13.5. I would not have bet the game at 14 pts.

I didn't play the O/U for this game or SDS because I'm not sold on Nico's ability to move the ball through the air, although I did play the over against.Cal on a parlay. So I'm 3-0 on bets, up $45.

UCLA is a road favorite against Maryland next week. I haven't done my research, so I have no insight to share.

But it they win, they could get into the rankings or very close to it and that would make me happy.

Let's go Bruins!

I have been checking the polls each week because I want to know how much respect we're getting. So far, it's a little, but still not enough to break into the Top 25.

But each win gets the team more points (and more respect).

Beating Maryland won't get them into the Top 25, and even if it did, they would likely fall out again as a result of the bye week which follows.

The real test will be on October 10th when the team is in Eugene to play the Ducks. A win over Oregon will almost certainly move the Bruins into the Top 25 if Oregon doesn't lose again and fall out of the rankings first.

Yes, some very interesting games coming up---the consecutive conference road games for the Bruins and Oregon at U$C next weekend. Look forward to seeing how good these teams are this season. Hope HC Chesney can deliver some JMUcla payback to the lame Ducks!

While still unranked, UCLA has definitely caught more attention of the pool voters yesterday. They jumped from 8 votes to 18 votes in the USA Coaches Poll. In the AP pool, they received 10 votes, up from 9 votes from the sportswriters. A very positive trend.

Nice bounce back game for Nico, but hope he doesn't get too banged up because his brother doesn't seem quite ready to replace him yet. The team definitely has a lot to work on, but congrats to HC Chesney and staff on securing their first conference win!

Go (JMUcla) Bruins!

Nico getting banged up is a real worry. We need him to run just enough to make the D have to plan for it. Madden just doesn’t seem ready. He doesn’t run, and doesn’t throw, so he’s just there to hand the ball off which gets way too predicable. I think Nico has been off the field in all three games with little niggles, but if he really goes down I think we’re in big trouble.

If we keep this up, we could end up with 8 or 9 wins! The only teams that "scare" me on our schedule is Oregon and Michigan, and SC game is a toss up

Even Oregon & Michigan have shown they are vulnerable.

Our offense is headed for being one of the top offenses in the BIG if Nico stays healthy and continues to lead in this kind of performance. And our run game is near if not the best in the BIG.

I believe our secondary problems are fixible. I do not think this is a talent issue. Our D-line is pretty darn great against the run. Our challenge is pass defense. And we must reduce the penalties.

Also, Ben Bolch calling the suc defense 'crummy' was pretty legend. Gotta love Ben, even if he has to cover suc 🤣

Go Bruins!!! 💙💛💙💛

Still not sure why Ben lumped us with $c as barely squeaking by. At least we beat the spread.

Tamara's avatar

Yeah, that was weird. I have noticed a drop off in the quality of writing Ben has put out. I am sure it is due to sheer volume. When he was just covering UCLA in the LAT, his writing was always top notch.

What play did Mikey Matthews get injured? Sucks to lose him for the season.

Against San Diego State when he was forced out of bounds. Late hit too. Should have been flagged.

The San Diego State game and this game were two trap games for me. The SDSU game was one prior teams would have fallen flat on their face on, and doubly so for a “lowly” conference opponent we would have overlooked in prior years.

Barry Odom and Josh Henson (Purdue’s OC) definitely had some good counters to Hitchler’s blitzing fastballs — we got smoked in man coverage. Hoping the rest of our DL rounds out into form and we can start running some more fire zones because better teams (maybe Malik Washington?) will torch us.

It’d be a dream going 4-0 into the bye week and with Oregon looming, knowing we have so much we need to work on. Here’s hoping we can get there.
