Every Bruin fan knows what today is. This afternoon, the Bruins will be across town for the annual Crosstown Showdown rivalry game against Southern Cal. Rumors have the heat on Chip Kelly regarding his future in Westwood. In case you missed this week’s media interview article published earlier today, highly respected reporter Bruce Feldman had a report on the situation this morning on Fox Big Noon Kickoff. First, he mentioned the Orange County Register report in which Casey Wasserman called the notion “ridiculous.” But, that was just a rehash of what we already know. Feldman, then, mentioned that he had a conversation with UCLA Athletic Director Martin Jarmond on Wednesday and, according to Feldman, Jarmond called Tracy Pierson’s report “clickbait.”
Feldman’s report certainly casts the BRO report in a negative light. We’ll see what happens next after today’s game.
But, before then, there’s a game to be played. Here are the Keys to the Game for the Bruins this afternon:
Keys to the Game
1. Shut Down Caleb Williams
The Bruin defense needs to keep Caleb Williams out of the end zone on the ground or through the air. If they can find a way to do that, then it will be up to the Bruin offense to put up enough points to beat $c.
2. Score at Least 30 Points
It sounds simple enough, but the UCLA offense has struggled getting the ball into the end zone the past two weeks. In order to have a chance today, the Bruins will need to score more points than they have in each of the past three weeks and six of the past seven weeks. That’s a pretty tall order.
3. Create Turnovers & Don’t Make The
The easiest way for the Bruin defense to keep Williams out of the end zone is by creating turnovers. Williams can’t lead the Trojans into the end zone if he doesn’t have the football. That’s also why the offense needs to avoid giving the ball away, especially deep in $c territory.
