UCLA Bruins Blank Florida, 8-0; Advance to WCWS Semifinals vs. Oklahoma
Holly Azevedo allowed just two hits to the Gators yesterday and the Bruins wrapped the game up early.

The UCLA Softball team took care of business yesterday with an 8-0 mercy rule win over the Florida Gators. The Bruins got a solid pitching effort from Holly Azevedo while also generating enough offense to end the game early.
Today, the Bruins will need two beat Oklahoma twice in order to advance to the WCWS Championship Series against either the #7th seed Oklahoma State Cowgirls or the Texas Longhorns. First pitch for today’s first game is at 9 am PT and, assuming UCLA wins the first game, both games will air on ESPN.
Last Time Out
The Bruins crushed the Florida Gators, 8-0.
UCLA took the lead in the bottom of the second when the Bruins used some small ball to score the first run of the game. With one out, Savannah Pola drew a walk and a two-out single by Anna Vines moved Pola to second. Kelli Godin followed and drove Pola in with a single to right center. Unfortunately, Kinsley Washington grounded out stranding Vines and Godin on the corners to end the inning with the Bruins only scoring the one run.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth when Pola led off the inning. Again, she drew a walk. A sacrifice bunt by Megan Faraimo moved Pola to second and that chased Florida starter Elizabeth Hightower, but it didn’t stop the Bruins. Pola, Vines and Godin all went on to score in the inning as UCLA opened up a 4-0 lead.
Then, in the bottom of the sixth, the Bruins plated four more runs to end the game an inning early.
Holly Azevedo won her 21st game of the season and led her team to the WCWS Semifinals today.
Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners have had an incredible season. They have won 56 of the 58 games they have played.
In fact, their only two losses of the season have come against the other two remaining teams — the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma State Cowgirls.
The Sooners defeated the Bruins, 4-1, back on February 12th. It was UCLA’s first loss of the season. But the Bruins also lost the next game they played to Northwestern and they managed to crush the Wildcats, 6-1, on Friday.
So, don’t count these Bruins out yet. They have won 10 of the last 11 games, after all.
UCLA just needs to take care of business twice today to advance to the WCWS Championship Series starting on Wednesday.
