#4 UCLA Beach Volleyball Will Battle #3 LSU Today

This is a huge weekend for the Bruins as they host the Tigers and #2 Florida State.

This weekend is the biggest weekend of the regular season for the UCLA beach volleyball team. That’s because the Bruins will host a pair of doubleheaders against the #3 LSU Tigers today and the #2 Florida State Seminoles tomorrow. While you’d think that such a big pair of matches would be televised, neither one will be. Instead, Pac-12.com will have live streams of each court.

Last Time Out

UCLA wrapped up play in the Pac-12 South Invitational last weekend by sweeping the Oregon Ducks, 5-0. It was the fourth straight sweep for the Bruins.

It was about as perfect a victory as possible.

None of the duals were even close. In four of the ten total sets, the Bruins were able to win while holding the Ducks to less than ten points. In five of the other six sets, Oregon scored 14 points or less. There was only one set where the Ducks were within five points of the Bruins.

Rileigh Powers and Jaden Whitmarsh finished first on Court Five when they demolished Batia Rotshtein and Delaney Hopen, 21-5, 21-7. On Court One, Savvy Simo and Lexy Denaburg won their match against Carly Wallace and Anastasia Lima next by scores of 21-14 and 21-8. UCLA clinched the win when Devon Newberry and Lindsey Sparks beat Josie Cole and Zoe Almanza on Court Three, 21-10, 21-14. Abby Van Winkle and Lea Monkhouse finished fourth, defeating Madelyn LaFollette and Vivian Donovan, 21-13, 21-7. Finally, Megan Muret and Jacqueline Quade topped Bea Wetton and Ashley Schroeder on Court Four, 21-17, 21-13.

Today’s Matches

LSU comes into this weekend with just two losses on the season. Both losses came against #2 Florida State. They’ve won all 16 of their other matches.

The Tigers are a legitimate contender for the national championship. In addition to facing the Bruins today, LSU faces Southern Cal tomorrow. Meanwhile, Florida State takes on Southern Cal today and heads to Westwood tomorrow. So, fans will get a serious preview of the NCAA Tournament with the top four teams in the nation each facing two of the top four teams.
