#4 UCLA Beach Volleyball Looks for Perfect Weekend when #2 Florida State Visits Westwood
The Bruins swept a doubleheader against the #3 LSU Tigers yesterday. Now, they will look to finish the weekend a perfect 4-0.
After sweeping yesterday’s doubleheader with the #3 LSU Tigers, 4-1 and 3-2, the Bruins welcome the #2 Florida State Seminoles to Mapes Beach for another doubleheader. The first match of today’s doubleheader begins at 10 am PT and the second one starts at 1:30 pm PT. Like yesterday, today’s matches won’t be televised, but they will be live streamed.
Last Time Out
Yesterday, the Bruins won both of their matches against the LSU Tigers. They won the first match, 4-1.
In that match, Jacqueline Quade and Megan Muret were on court four and they finished their dual against Jess Lansman and Sydney Moore first. Quade and Muret won both sets to sweep Lansman and Moore, 21-14, 21-12.
Over on court two, Abby Van Winkle and Lea Monkhouse defeated their opponents, Claire Coppola and Kelli Greene-Agnew, next by scores of 21-17 and 21-17.
The pair of Rileigh Powers and Jaden Whitmarsh were on court five and they clinched the match for the Bruins by beating Olivia Ordonez and Kahlee York in three sets, 21-18, 17-21, 15-10.
Devon Newberry and Lindsey Sparks won UCLA’s fourth dual. The pair defeated Toni Rodriguez and Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope in three sets on court three, 25-23, 19-21, 15-11.
The final dual to finish was on court one. That’s where Lexy Denaburg and Savvy Simo’s dual against Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss went to three sets and then some. Unfortunately Kloth and Nuss prevailed over Denaburg and Simo, 21-14, 23-25, 27-25. It was the only dual UCLA lost in the first match.
The second match with Quade and Muret sweeping Lansman and Moore again, 21-18, 21-14.
LSU tied the match when Coppola and Greene-Agnew swept their dual on court two against Van Winkle and Monkhouse, 21-16, 22-20. The Tigers took the lead in the second match when Kloth and Nuss swept Denaburg and Simo, 24-22, 21-14.
The Bruins tied the match back up when Newberry and Sparks got past Rodriguez and Rasnick-Pope in three sets on court three, 13-21, 21-16, 15-12.
That meant that the second match would come down to the dual on court five. Powers and Whitmarsh were able to defeat Ordonez and York again, even though they needed five sets to do it, 21-19, 12-21, 15-13. That dual win gave UCLA the win in the second match, 3-2.
Florida State Seminoles
The Seminoles came into this weekend undefeated. But, while the Bruins were sweeping LSU, Florida State split a pair of matches across town against Southern Cal. The Seminoles lost the first match to the Trojans yesterday, 4-1, but they bounced back in the second match to take that one, 3-2, for their 22nd win of the season.
After yesterday’s sweep of LSU, UCLA will almost certainly move up in the rankings. If the Bruins want to jump two spots, they will need to sweep Florida State today. It’s even possible that a sweep oftoday’s two matches against the Seminoles could help UCLA take over the top spot since Florida State split their matches with Southern Cal.
