UCLA Basketball Recruiting: 5-Star PG Dylan Andrews Commits to the Bruins
The Bruins land their future point guard.
The recruiting news came fast and furious around noon Pacific today. First came Myles Johnson’s announcement that he was transferring to UCLA, and that was followed quickly by the announcement from 2022 point guard Dylan Andrews, who followed suit by announcing for the Bruins as well.
Dylan Andrews stands at 6-3 and weighs 180 pounds. He currently plays basketball for Windward School, which also produced Jules Bernard and Jordin Canada, and is a 5-star recruit according to 247Sports rankings (he is a 4-star by the Composite rankings). 247Sports has Andrews ranked as the 5th best point guard recruit in the 2022 class, and the 21st best recruit in general.
Andrews is an excellent point guard who utilizes his size with a solid handle to bully opposing teams. He’s not a quick-twitch point guard in the style of a DeAaron Fox, but closer to a Lonzo Ball in that he melds a bigger body with solid passing and scoring ability. Andrews is a three-level scorer, able to finish at the rim while possessing an outside shot that will play at the next level. He’s also an adaptable player who can morph between being scoring-first and passing-first depending on what the team needs in the moment. I made the comparison to Lonzo because Andrews is also solid on the defensive end, using his size and length to harass opposing point guards while showing good defensive instincts.
With the commitment of Andrews now in, the Bruins look to have their backcourt of the future set. Andrews will be coming in alongside fellow 5-star guard Amari Bailey to form a potent young backcourt, and Andrews looks to be the type of recruit who should stick around a few years and become the centerpiece of Cronin’s roster. Also crucially, Andrews is a member of the Compton Magic, one of the best AAU programs in Southern California. The Bruins have had major success with the program over the years, with three current roster players being former members in Bernard, Johnny Juzang, and Jaylen Clark, and keeping the pipeline open will be a major point of emphasis for coach Mick Cronin going forward. Having Andrews already committed should help the Bruins when it comes to the recruitment of his Compton Magic teammate Kijani Wright, who is another major UCLA target.

Welcome to Westwood, Dylan!
Go Bruins!!!
Cronin sure seems to be drawing a lot of attention to the program. And the right kind!
Recruiting is great.
