I think it’s important to wait for all the facts. At first glance, it looks really bad. That being said, there have been numerous accounts of really bad fan behavior in recent years. There’s a 49ers fan in a hospital in a medical induced coma after the most recent playoff game. We can always do what Arizona would do, or SC. We can suspend Mac for the ASU game.

Exactly. As I said, follow what Az or SC would do!

I'm always for waiting for ALL of the facts to go out. But this is on video. I'm curious as to what possible fact could exist that would justify (or even lessen the responsibility or make the situation not as bad) Mac spitting into the stands? Hypothetically, what could that possibly be?

Anyone else see the irony that you can steal a tv, car, or basically anything else in LA and the cops won't do anything, but you get arrested in Tucson for spitting?

Arizona fans should be arrested for disorderly conduct.

While I do not condone Mac's behavior in any way (if you have ever been spit on you know how truly disgusting it is), I am getting frustrated with the fan behavior teams are subjected to (in all sports). I have commented in both the Colorado and Arizona game threads about the vile language being hurled from the crowds. Interestingly if you listen to the radio feed, none of that is bleeped out. The announcers are even commenting on it and I am pretty sure Josh Lewin and Tracy Murray have heard foul language before so it makes me wonder what else is being yelled from the stands. Most of it seems to be coming from the student sections. Honestly, I feel sorry for the athletes in a lot of ways. A "hostile environment" doesn't even begin to describe some of these gyms. A very sad time for the Bruins. I too will wait for all the facts to come out.

THIS IS UCLA. Jackie Robinson went here. I am pretty sure that whatever Mac or anyone else on the team were subjected to by Arizona fans is not close to what Jackie Robinson experienced on a daily basis from opposing fans while at UCLA and in his professional career. And he never reacted. Not once. I don't care what the fans said. There is nothing they could have said that warrants Mac or any other athlete reacting that way. Nothing. Not foul language. Not racial slurs. Not physical threats. You keep walking and hold your head high with class.

That’s not entirely true about Jackie Robinson. When he was at Pasadena Jr College he was known to be combative towards police and fans and ended up arrested and having to serve a 2-year suspended sentence.

And since today is Rosa Parks bday, there’s also a similar incident with Robinson in the military where he refused an order to move to the back of the bus I believe at Fort Hood and ended up being court martialed.

I did not know he had been arrested. According to Wikipedia, this had nothing to do with sports though. Again, it's wikipedia, so major * on truth. Sourced to a biography, it says "he was arrested after vocally disputing the detention of a black friend by police. Robinson received a two-year suspended sentence." Sports is different. When you step onto the field or into the arena as a player, you don't react. No matter what. And -- other than the possible incident you brought up -- Jackie never did.

Arrested? My gawd, our country a bunch of goddamn "Karens". Officer, arrest this man, he farted in my general direction. Look, a young kid lost his cool and should have known better no matter how big of a$$holes the two-bit AZ fans were being.

But, what the hell? It couldn't be dealt with in an appropriate way. Arrested? Really? I dunno, 10 hours of community service on the UA of campus cleaning garbage cans or picking up litter? An apology directly to the UA of fans on their home court before their next game? Something that fits the "crime." If I were a judge and this case came to me, I'd lock up the D.A. for wasting the public's money.

I do agree with your comment about the many Karens out there we are dealing with. But I am just as pissed off at the many people -- LA Times for one -- justifying his behavior since he was insulted. Oh no he was insulted. Oh no someone called him a girl because of his hair. They must be anti whatever so it's totally cool if he reacted. No. Grow a pair and some thicker skin.

iirc he was served the citation, called a "paper arrest" in Arizona. He has a court day coming up, as the AZ fan insisted on filling a police report and wants his day in court.

Even if the AZ fans were being verbally abusive, it was a complete lack of control to have retaliated by spitting on them (so gross!). Makes Cronin look bad too. None of the other Bruins acknowledged the heckling, as they all walked past the crowd and ignored the bozos while heading into their locker room. Similar to the shoplifting incident in China, the UCLA administration and Etienne may end up having to publicly apologize. At least they didn't need Trump to help get Mac out of Tuscon... :-) Look forward to a possible rematch and better outcome next time.

Mac's actions were completely unacceptable. You can't spit on anyone. There's nothing good that will come of it and it's a low class move. Let AZ define itself with its F*** Tyger and F Johnny chants during the game and the name calling afterward. Don't get dragged to their level, ever.

But dude pressing charges? Get TF over yourself.

to be fair, F Tyler and F Johnny is not that much different from what I've heard at Pauley over the years, including this season. Yet nobody spits at UCLA fans. Agreed that his actions were completely unacceptable and its low class. I did not see him in any of the huddles during the ASU game.
