The assumption was that Canka was going to be a developmental piece and would not contribute much this year. Most of his appearances so far have backed that theory up, with Canka looking like someone who needs some time to adjust to the college game. This was the first game where he actually looked like a playable piece this year. That's why I went with that phrasing, though I could see why some might think differently.
Canka is pretty vulnerable on the defensive end. Even if he turns out ok in a few years, he's currently a defensive liability compared to the rest of the team.
Apparently Eric Musselmen wants nothing to do with Bellermine: “We’re not playing that team. I can tell you that,” he said. “We will not schedule them as long as I’m living. I promise that.”
They're one of the best offensive teams around, especially because of their ball movement. Musselman in particular was reacting to a viral clip from Bellarmine's victory over Louisville this year (yes, that Louisville) where they passed the ball eight times without a single dribble and it led to a wide-open three. They're the kind of smart, savvy team that can give an unprepared P5 nightmares.
“I wouldn’t want to play them,” said Musselman, “You see that game? Those guys — I’ve never seen a team pass the ball so much in my life. I’ve never seen a team not dribble the ball like that.”
Musselman is referring to a clip from Bellarmine’s win at U of L that went viral on Twitter after the game. On one of the Knights’ possessions, they made eight consecutive passes without taking a dribble before guard Juston Betz buried a wide open 3-pointer.
“It was a work of art,” Mussulman said.
Judging by Musselman’s staunch reluctance to schedule Bellarmine, it’s fair to say the Arkansas coach thinks that style of play could be a recipe for disaster against his team.
I always like watching Coach Cronin's post-game interview. There's a man who knows what he is teaching. He has no evasiveness about why a player is "unavailable". And no BS about Jaquez on defense - paraphrasing "If he doesn't learn how to defend NBA-caliber players, he won't play. He won't play at the next level on just his offense. Having said that, we definitely need him to score for us"
I clearly complain more than I should… but ucla is looking better than unc these days. UCLA need a big non conference win though! They still have time to win some good non conference games

If you had said the word "Bellarmine" to me 6 hours ago, I would have thought it was a kind of cheese.

Interesting. Do you know why that is?

Ah, so he was actually complimenting them. Got it. Thanks, you two. 👍
