It's too bad he won't be enrolling until September because he won't be eligible to join the basketball team on their preseason trip/games in Spain later this month. Aday would give the Bruins a really nice "home" team advantage in Spain, and as it looks like Adem Bona is skipping the trip to give his shoulder longer to rehab and heal, he would have gotten a lot more playing time, as well. Oh well. I'll keep hanging on until October. Go Bruins!!
(also, the spellchecker on my laptop - when I'm repeatedly typing Aday and Adem in game threads next year - is probably gonna resign lol)
The UCLA roundball website has him heading to Spain the Bruins for the games as of 4 hours ago. Maybe you got a scoop. Here's what they say:
"Now, he’s set to join a frontcourt that includes reigning Pac-12 Conference freshman of the year and all-defensive team selection Adem Bona, who decided to return to school after initially declaring for the NBA draft.
In less than three weeks, Mara will be headed back to Spain along with his new Bruins teammates when the program starts a nine-day international trip Aug. 20."
Will he be a Kareem or Walton or a Kevin Love? You know, one quarter and done! Be great if he sticks around for a while; he is being tabbed as a 2024 NBA lottery pick all over the media. Sure hope he and his parents are serious about him wanting a good education.
..or do I sound liked one of those butt hurt Georgia fans when Herschel Walker left in his Junior year to play in the USFL?
Still in all, it's kind of cool that Cronin wants to recruit in Europe. Screw the East Coast media and their nose in the air about UCLA basketball. remember what we old USAF navigators used to say: "East is least and West is best".
Make no mistake about this: I was (and am) a big Herschel Walker fan and was definitely on his side when he chose to take a $5 million personal services contract for playing in the USFL versus returning to Georgia for his senior year and risk his pro career because of injury. (The contract, by the way, was to ensure he got the $5 million even if the USFL folded.)
As to the young man from Spain, I wish him all the best and hopes he stays at UCLA. However, if he wishes to go to the NBA, more power to him. Like Walker, Mara would be wise to take the money while he can. He can always return to UCLA and earn his degree if he chooses.
P.S., I bear Kevin Love nor any other Bruin who "exercise their option" no ill feelings either. And, as long as we're on the subject, I am damned glad that Ed "Have More Kids" O'Bannon endured the pain and suffering getting the win in his NIL suit. The NCAA are a bunch of thieves, brigands, and road agents. It's a pity that Ed didn't make out better on that deal. He gave up a lot for us to earn that eleventh flag and I appreciate that.
Happy Summer, Might Bruins! Welcome to Westwood, Aday!
¡Beinvenidos a Westwood, Aday!

¡Excelente! I'm sure they're more up to date than what I last heard so that's great news!

Say what you will about Herschel Walker, but do you have a Herschel Walker USFL rookie card in your card collection?
I do! In fact, I have the complete Premier set of Topps 1983 USFL cards which also includes a Rick Neuheisel rookie card.
I actually mentioned that once to Rick when he was head coach and his response to me was, "Yeah, you and my mother!" LOL
But, in all seriousness, the $10 I spent for the set was the best 10 bucks I ever spent. That set is worth at least $300 the last time I checked.

And, I wasn't criticizing your Herschel Walker comment.
It was just a chance to tell a fun story about that 1983 USFL football card set! LOL
I know. Salud!
The idea that we force these kids to go to college against their will for 6 months is insane.
