UCLA Baseball Hosts Loyola Marymount Again After Beating Arizona on Sunday
The Bruins will look to make it two in a row when they host the Lions at JRS tonight.
After taking the rubber match against Arizona on Sunday, the UCLA baseball team will look to make it two in a row when they host the Loyola Marymount Lions this evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm and the game will be live streamed.
Last Time Out
On Sunday, starter “Nasty” Nick Nastrini threw 3-2/3 innings and his stuff wasn’t as good as usual. He hit the first batter he faced, then walked the second one. With two outs, he balked and the runners advanced to second and third. A single brought both runners in and Arizona had a quick 2-0 lead.
Mikey Perez led off the second with a single and he took second base on a wild pitch. Josh Hahn drove him in with an RBI single to cut the Wildcats’ lead in half.
In the third, Jarron Silva drew a rather epic seven-pitch walk with the bases loaded to tie the game.
The Bruins added another breadstick in the fourth when Matt McLain homered to give UCLA a 3-2 lead and they added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth when Kyle Karros doubled home Hahn and Michael Curialle.
UCLA added four more in the sixth and JT Schwartz capped the game with a two-run homer in the seventh.
Meanwhile, Nastrini and Jake Saum held the Wildcats scoreless until the top of the seventh when Saum loaded the bases and Jared Karros was brought in to put out the fire. Karros gave up a sacrifice fly that scored a run which was charged to Saum, but, other than that, he held Arizona scoreless and UCLA went on to win 11-3.
Saum picked up his first win of the season against two losses.
Loyola Marymount
Since the Bruins last saw the Lions, they’ve gone 6-8. They swept a series with Utah, took two of three from Washington and beat UC Berkeley once, but they’ve dropped six in a row. First, they lost three straight to UC Berkeley, then, they were swept by BYU and, finally, Arizona beat them on yesterday.
Tonight’s matchup pairs two freshmen. Owen Hackman takes the hill for LMU while Jake Brooks will make his first start for the Bruins.
UCLA should make it seven straight losses for LMU tonight.
