The Bruins moved up in the rankings from 10th to 9th after taking two of three from the Trojans last weekend, and now they will host the Washington Huskies (8-13, 0-6) starting tonight at 6 pm. It’s a rare Thursday to Saturday series because of the holiday weekend this weekend. All three games against the Huskies will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.

Last Time Out

In Sunday’s rubber match, the Bruins trounced the Trojans, 13-1.

UCLA would score all that they would need in the top of the second. JT Schwartz drew a lead-off walk and, with one out, Pat Caulfield sent one over the wall in left to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead.

Southern Cal would score their only run of the game in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI triple.

The Bruins doubled their run count in the fourth on a pair of sacrifice flies from Mikey Perez and Caulfield. Then, they added five more in the fifth on an RBI walk by Noah Cardenas and RBI singles from Schwartz, who drove in two, Perez and Michael Curialle. That gave UCLA a 9-1 lead and the Bruins weren’t done yet.

Perez hit another RBI single in the sixth and Schwartz scored on a wild pitch. Then, Perez scored when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as UCLA increased their lead to 12-1.

The final Bruin run scored in the top of the ninth when JonJon Vaughns capped off the destruction of Troy with a solo homer to right.

Jared Karros pitched six innings and allowed just one run on two hits and one walk for the win before handing it over to the bullpen for the final nine outs. The win moves UCLA into a three-way tie for second in the Pac-12 standings, just one game behind leader Oregon State.

Washington Huskies

The Huskies are in dead last in the conference standings. They have yet to win a conference game. The only real question here is how many runs will UCLA beat Washington by each night?

I’m predicting a sweep for the Bruins at home.
