UCLA Baseball Faces Sun Devils After Crushing Fresno State Yesterday
The Bruins destroyed the Bulldogs, 19-4.

If you watched yesterday’s UCLA baseball, you witnessed the Bruins taking the Fresno State Bulldogs to school as UCLA put on an amazing offensive display, scoring 19 runs in the game.
Now, the Bruins will take on their former Pac-12 rival, the Arizona State Sun Devils, in Game 4 of the Los Angeles Regional this evening. First pitch is slated for 6 pm PT and can be watched online via ESPN+/WatchESPN.com. The game will not be televised.
Last Time Out
I don’t care what level of baseball you’re talking about. Anytime your team can score 19 runs in a game, it’s impressive, but the 2025 Bruins have scored ten runs or more in 18 of their 42 wins this season. That’s about 43% of their wins this season.
So, in a way, it shouldn’t be that surprising they scored so many runs yesterday, even though 19 runs is their second-highest tally in a game this season. Their highest came when they put up 22 runs against Michigan on March 4th.
In the bottom of the first, Dean West led off the game for the Bruins and he reached on a hit-by-pitch. Mulivai Levu singled to left with one out to move West over to third. Roman Martin singled through the left side to score West and move Levu to second. Following a wild pitch that moved up both runners, AJ Salgado grounded out to third, scoring Levu and advancing Martin to third. Martin would score when Payton Brennan doubled down the left field line and Brennan came around when Blake Balsz (can there be a better baseball name?) singled to left-center. That made it 4-0, Bruins, at the end of one.
Fresno State got one back in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Griffen Sotomayor which scored Cam Schneider.
But UCLA came right back in the bottom half of the inning when they scored two more. With one out, Martin hit a solo homer to left. That shot would prove to be the game-winner, but it didn’t stop the Bruin offensive blitzkrieg. Salgado doubled to left-center and he scored on an RBI single by Balsz. After three, UCLA led 6-1.
The Bulldogs got another one back in the top of the fourth and the score remained 6-2 until the bottom of the seventh.
That’s when UCLA exploded with six runs, doubling their total to 12-2.
While Bruin reliever August Souza gave up a pair of runs in the top of the eighth, it was too little, too late for Fresno State.
Just in case, though, UCLA came right back and tacked on seven more in the bottom half of the inning to jump ahead 19-4.
Ian May threw a scoreless ninth to wrap up the win for the Bruins.
Arizona State Sun Devils
In yesterday’s nitecap, both the Sun Devils and the Anteaters scored a pair of runs in the second and it was 2-2 heading into the fourth.
That’s when Jacob Tobias and Kien Vu hit back-to-back doubles to give the Sun Devils a 3-2 lead. That would prove to be the game-winner, though ASU would add an insurance run in the eighth. Tobias doubled again and scored on an RBI single by Isaiah Jackson, making the final score 4-2 in favor of the Sun Devils.
