Good grief. Testing the waters or good as gone? So much for the anticipated hi/low post offense. At least Amari and Bona put to rest other coaches' negative recruiting on UCLA that Cronin doesn't play freshmen vis a vis Peyton.
This is the first year I watched most of the women’s games so I can’t really tell if they had bad strategy. I know they struggled with closing games out but I thought that was because of so many freshman. I don’t blame them with South Carolina strategy because South Carolina was so big and better than us. But we did pick up 2 players that would help with getting muse and Betts that will solve some of our problems against tall teams.
First of all, I want to say that I love the women's basketball team and Coach Close is one of the nicest people I have ever met but I have to admit that it's a bit hard watching their games sometimes because of the long droughts in scoring and what seems to be CCC's lack of adjustments against the top opponents. Also we now have our bigs but we don't seem to have a consistent 3pt shooter. Charisma is a good experienced leader and will go on hot streaks to win games for us but she also has had a few games where she shoots us out of games and her overall averages of 39%fg/29%3pt fg needs improvement (see Caitlin Clark at 47%/39%) and Camryn hasn't made a 3pt shot her entire 4 year career. Plus Kiki was at 22% so the #1 need is a 3pt shooter imho, basically a David Singleton equivalent.
PS I made a comment a few days ago in the NIL article about Troy Aikman's recent tweet saying an on campus stadium would be "a game-changer" and there I referenced Joe's insightful article from last year and I think that needs revisiting since Troy seems so adamant about building one on campus. And look at the reasoning and concepts from this tweet responding to Troy of what the stadium might look like:
Yeah, we need to support our women's team more for sure as they are very good. As for the stadium, pretty nice huh! Although I just found this by doing a search after seeing Troy's tweet so who ever posted it did their research.
But what I liked most was the reasoning this person put when you click on the ALT in the pics about UCLA being the Olympic village for 2028 and will host thousands of athletes therefore, why not build a stadium with housing attached and let LA and IOC pay for part of the bill as it should easily cost $600M+ (SD State's new one cost $310M fyi). On top of that, I didn't know that Casey Wasserman was the Chairman of the LA Olympic organizing committee so even more critical if we want to get it done now. It's a no brainer with the biggest sports event in the world literally coming to UCLA and billions watching worldwide. What an opportunity to showcase the school and show off a beautiful new stadium that can be a dual housing and practice facility for the Olympic athletes while they are here and maybe even recruit some of these athletes to attend UCLA? I hope Troy and Casey can turn this thing into a reality and maybe Joe can update and repost the article he wrote as it's so timely imho. Maybe interview Troy?
As for the RB, I enjoy tailgating there but the seating, facilities, sound and enthusiasm generated when put against a modern stadium just doesn't compare. Contracts were made to be broken and I'm sure something can be worked out with Pasadena like a revenue share each year or something like that.
DD, you crack me up the way you diplomatically cover all bases. "The time is now" and "It's officially prove it season," yet "I am not calling for Cori Close to be on the hot seat." Smooth.
Thanks for the post on UCLA Women’s Basketball, DD!
For those interested in volleyball, please keep an eye on the Men’s Volleyball team. The Bruins are currently #1 in the nation after winning the conference title and sweeping Stanford in the conference tournament final. I will be stunned if UCLA is not the top seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament, and I fully expect the Bruins to reach the final to play either Penn State or Hawai’i for the national title.

Testing the waters. Everyone has reported he is maintaining his eligibility so he could (and likely will) be back in college next year.
If so, then Cronin's goal for the team is to hold opponents to single digit scoring.

wow, love the looks of the mock-ups of the stadium! thanks for showing me this, PSHS!!
And this is the first year I actually watched more than 2 games for Women's Basketball. I am definitely curious now about next season :-)

Add Lauryn Betts.

Go BRUINS!
The Bruins were selected as the #1 seed for the NCAA Tournament. They will, IMO, likely play Long Beach State in the semis.
