Southern Cal Trojans at UCLA Bruins Game Thread
Tonight, the crosstown rivals meet with the Victory Bell and, potentially, a bowl berth going to the winner.
Bruins. Trojans. Blue and Gold versus Ketchup and Mustard. Two schools and two teams separated by just twelve miles.
Red Sanders, the only Bruin head football coach to win a national championship and the creator of the UCLA Stripe, summed this game up this way: “Beating SC is not a matter of life or death, it's more important than that.”
Tonight, it is certainly more important than that. Both teams need a win to keep their bowl hopes alive. The loser will most likely miss out on a bowl game and, more importantly, the extra practice time that comes with it.
Let’s look at the keys to tonight’s Game.
Keys to the Game
1. Forget Last Week
After winning three games in a row, UCLA took a step back last week. With an extra day to prepare for their crosstown rivals this week, the Bruins need to forget all about last week’s loss to Washington and get back to what worked for them against Rutgers, Nebraska and Iowa.
2. Pressure Jayden Maiava
Redshirt sophomore Jayden Maiava will make just his second start of the season following the benching of Miller Moss. The Bruins need to put pressure on Southern Cal’s quarterback while also preventing the more mobile Maiava from hurting them with his legs.
3. Move the Ball Against Lynn’s Defense
The Bruins need to move the ball effectively against the defense of former UCLA defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn. Fortunately, Lynn’s defense this year isn’t nearly as good as it was last year. That’s because the Trojans don’t have guys like Darius Muasau or Laiatu Latu playing for them. In fact, the Southern Cal rushing defense isn’t especially good at all. So, the Bruins need to run the ball like they did against Iowa.

Malloe should get to repeatedly punch Bieniemy and Foster in the face for leaving him out to dry.
