IMO Julio Frenk has made two rock star hires with Chesney and Harris. And I was a student athlete in the early to mid 1980's and remember Chancellor Young very well. It's nice to see a Chancellor who not only appreciates but also clearly understands the role and importance of student athletics at an elite university. And as Ben Bolch points out, Dr. Frenk has more work to do and it will take some time. All of us Bruins know UCLA is not the University of Miami. But based upon what I have witnessed over the past year I cannot think of anyone better suited for the job. Thank you Dr. Frenk and the Bruin alumni are here with you and with Mr. Harris!

What sport did you play? That is so awesome that you were at UCLA during the Chancellor Young era. I met his wife and she was charming and lovely.

UCLA alumni currently employed at the University of Miami. Julio Frenk is responsible for the success Miami is currently experiencing. After ESPN reported on how far the football team had fallen Frenk took action, made changes, and the results speak for themselves.

I gotta admit I had terrible flash back of Battered Bruin Syndrome watching the scoreless 1st half. I’m guessing SDSU studied film to get a feel for their plays. I left the sports bar I was at the half. In San Diego nonetheless! But I was happy to see they scored (sports app). Then I the morning saw they won comfortably. Fingers crossed they fix the mistakes they making.

Agreed regarding mistakes. The Bruin defense has greatly improved from last year.and their special teams efficiency is better than average. It may be going through many coaches in two years, adjusting to a revamped offensive line, poor play calling by the offensive coordinator and also losing some key receivers due to injury, but Iamaleava's play has been underwhelming. His red zone play is extremely challenged. He is opting to run the ball too much. He appears to be confused at times and out of sync. I hope he can turn it around. At this point, I am concerned about him making it through the season without a major injury. Finally, 2 games....20 penalties total....134th ranked out of 138 teams in the FBS. That is undisciplined awful.

Actually, it's 129th not 134th. If you subtract the two kickoffs which went out of bounds, we jump to 116.

This team is NOT awful. They are playing hard football with enthusiasm and energy. They are much improved over last season.

Is there room for improvement? ALWAYS.

For the first time in more than a decade, it's reasonable to believe that we will continue getting better each week.

I believe the new Chancellor, new AD, and new HC have combined to form the long overdue trifecta for positive change and long-term success at UCLA. A proven treatment and cure for BBS finally seems attainable. And, instead of burning them, I'd actually like to see the Rose Bowl tarps recycled by having them painted cardinal red and gold and sent across town to a new home at the Mausoleum.

Go Bruins!

Recycled, painted ketchup and mustard and sent to suc! That's perfect b4e. I was all in on the epic burning of the tarps but you have taken it to the nexr level. Well done, my friend.

And the trio we have in place will lead to UCLA rising to the top once again! 💙💛💙💛

But every now and then, for old times sake, let's remember the jelly donut on aisle six 🤣🤣🤣

Just trying to highlight a need to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, Ms. Tamara! ;-)

HC Chesney is indeed building a solid foundation for a revitalized football program that will become highly competitive going forward, so I think hopium addiction will also eventually be eliminated. Should be OK to have jelly donut at the Rose Bowl, but only in pictures, as fans might want to step on and kick around the real thing and then get their shoes all messy and sticky!

Burn them at the Beat $c bonfire when they aren't needed any longer!

Bruin4ever's avatar

I'll settle for burning them IF the ashes are then properly stored--at the Mausoleum! Underground right at midfield, perhaps? And, to end this regular season in the proper way on Nov. 28, Beat $C! [which could trigger another U$C HC firing--wouldn't that be fun, just like PSU last year!]

P.S.--I finally saw "The Odyssey" a couple of weeks ago. Thought it was a very good movie with great special effects, unusual casting, and some questionable dialogue/wardrobe/props, but nothing nearly as blatantly dumb and incompetent as that U$C season-opener promotion on X...

There had better be a change and it had better lead to EXTREME positivity! At over $240m in debt, the Athletic Dept needs to do something to stem the losses and stop the bleeding. This is the main reason Jarmond is gone. Just lost WAY TOO MUCH money, there were and currently are losing about $30m a year! This new leadership is obviously aware and yes, it starts with the football program. Meaning scheduling better home opponents and WINNING! This is the only way you attract more fans to the Rose Bowl. You're not going to get there with San Diego State, UC Davis, Nevada or Hawaii.

Unfortunately, a little mis-managed environment and blaze has me now over two hours away from the Bowl, so my tickets are circulating among friends and supporters. Given the Foster debacle, I need a few more competitive (not wins) games to be back on the money train. Having spent some time with Coach Chesney, I do think he's our best shot to re-establish some national status and respect.

Looked like Frenk was giving Jarmond enough rope to either save his job or hang himself. Earlier reports said Harris was being hired as a consultant. Wonder what Jarmond did as the final straw. Frenk definitely showed more patience than most of us would have. As a battered Bruin, with both Frenk and Harris not being spring chickens, I worry that they will not be around long enough to make meaningful, long lasting change.

Quick appreciation comment: After several years of lurking, I finally created an account. The Chesney era has brought excitement in a way I haven't felt since early days of bruin nation .com. Thank you to all the volunteers who spend their time creating content here. This site is my first stop for UCLA news during NCAAFB season.
