Jelly 2.0 is at it again. Yes, the cost of the lawsuit would likely far outweigh the slimey donut head's buyout.

Blockhead 2.0, are you reading the room?

I am fully convinced that Jelly 2.0 is a narcissist who is absolutely destroying UCLA piece by piece and there seems to be zero accountability by Blockhead 2.0 for the donut head.

UCLA Athletics is a shell of what it used to be and it is devastating to those whose love runs deep for the greatness that once defined us.

And not even UCLA Football Legends can get a respectable, sincere answer from Blockhead 2.0 in response to their well founded case against Jelly 2.0.

UCLA has officially moved into clown world. And the only solution is to fire Jelly 2.0 and his donut holes in Morgan, and never let them set foot on our beloved campus again.

That is all.

But Jelly 2.0 is the reason they're in the B1G and his decisions are why the football team won three games in a row. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

As a Chargers season ticket holder, I would actually look into also having ucla season tickets if they move to SoFi. I personally love the stadium and I feel it’s definitely easier to get to from the west side than Pasadena. Capacity is about similar, and because it’s covered, won’t have to worry about the September heat during games. The main downside is that the parking lots don’t allow tailgating so a ucla tradition of hanging out in the lots will be ended. Obviously ucla and the rose bowl have a shared history but I can’t bring myself to hate the move (or the attempt to move)

The tailgating at the Rose Bowl is amazing. It was never an issue for me to drive to the Rose Bowl on a Saturday, it's not like there is rush traffic. And people come from all over so there is no one perfect location.

Pasadena vs. Inglewood?

Such an easy answer in my book.

On campus stadium would be desirable but that battle went on for years, and all the 'brilliant' minds in the Athletic Dept couldn't seem to get it done.

I was tempted to leave that alone but since you mentioned. Definitely a narrative this current administration is pushing hard to punish institutions of higher learning. Disappointed to see it in this article.

Honestly, I didn't want to bring it up. I have read the proposed settlement and the proposed settlement covers topics which go far beyond the anti-Semitism which occurred last year and I could have chosen to discuss it in much more detail than I did because the proposed settlement does cover topics which do potentially affect UCLA athletics. Instead, I attempted to choose words which identified the proposed settlement in the simplest possible terms.

I was not looking to spur a discussion over that, but the lawsuit from the Rose Bowl does not exist in a vacuum, and like it or not, the fact that the university could have to pay a substantial fine as a result of last May's events may certainly end up influencing how UCLA deals with a situation such as this lawsuit from the Rose Bowl.

Joe,

With all due respect...

How is LBJon's comment not politically charged and divisive?

I thought comments like this were not allowed here as it fractures the community and has no place.

We are all Bruins here.

There was nothing wrong with your comment as it dealt with the financial implications of a what occurred without taking a position. There was stuff happening at campuses all across the country at that time. What you stated was about as innocuous as possible given the situation.

There were, in fact, videos of students who chose to wear a Star of David pendant being denied passage during the pro-Palestinian encampment.

One of the medical assistants at my doctor's office was a senior at UCLA during the encampment. We were chatting before one of my appointments and the unrest on campus came up organically. I asked her what happened because I figured a first hand account might be helpful rather than news reports. She said it was absolutely terrifying. Students including herself were constantly harassed if they had to walk anywhere near the encampment. She was prevented from getting to class and the library. And she isn't Jewish. She is Asian so it wasn't limited to just Jewish students from her first hand account.

I wouldn't be around to see it at this point, but an on-campus stadium would be the dream. But, a dream it always will be if you think the Bel-Air and Westwood homeowners are going to allow it.

I don't know, but I would have to imagine traffic and parking would be much worse or a bigger concern for those in the neighborhood for a stadium - even a 50,000-odd seat venue - than a conference center/hotel... the number of new stadiums constructed in or adjacent to affluent neighborhoods is approximately equal to Jarmond's "reading the room" score!

Tamara's avatar

You bring up a great question re: Luskin and I don't know the answer...

But you did get me thinking.

This is the one issue where Jelly 2.0 may be of value...

We could sell the homeowners on the fact that parking on campus would be more than enough given the attendance.

Jelly 2.0 could take full credit for inspiring this solution.

Don't know whether to 😢 or 🤣, likely both.

"The Kruller" has gone 'round the bend! The Fetus is officially lunch meat! The post pic tells the tale! that crowd show is pathetic! It's during a game and even with the "seat covers" the place is a morgue!

"SoFi Stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 70,240, which can be expanded to over 100,000 for major events."

How about "if you build it, they will come"? I think we're getting ahead of ourselves here. I mean, anyone checked the attendance figures versus seating capacity? If you can't fill up the Rose Bowl, how in the hell bad will it look if you put 18-25,000 into SoFi stadium?

Let's get real here. If you don't want to shoehorn a football crowd into the Ducky Drake T&F venue, there's places all over SoCal that are going begging that'd accommodate the Bruin's flagging football program.*

My fave would be Weingarten Stadium over on East Los Angeles City College. It was big enough to be the LA 1984 Olympics field hockey site and a lot of righteous HS programs play for title games there! Besides, it's nestled in a traditionally ethnic part of the Southland.

https://youtu.be/DkzMz88RR8s?si=JjuFebxrHYN6vAId

Ore le, ese! East Los, amigo! Simone que si!

*Hmmmmm! Got me to thinking! As long as the program is winding down, perhaps we should investigate alternative variations of the sport. You know, like six-man football. (Played in sparse areas of the country where population and playership isn't so abundant, like Utqiagvik on the North Slope of Alaska near Point Barrow.) Or, for that matter, switch from tackle football to FLAG football.

Hell, I coached 3902nd Support Squadron 8-man flag football team to the Offutt AFB championship two years in a row back in my service days. Those games packed 'em in down in Bellevue, Nebraska!

Re: "If you build it, they will come."---I believe that's what the UCLA administration is thinking in their effort to escape from the empty, tarp-covered Rose Bowl predicament. Apparently, trying to move the Bruins' home-field venue to SoFi Stadium is their solution to landing good HCs, attracting more talented recruits/transfers, and getting lots of spectators to fill the seats. They should instead be directing their energy towards hiring a competent AD that can restore the UCLA football progam. Mediocrity playing in a more modern, attractive stadium closer to campus will still be mediocrity if the existing incompetence and apathy are allowed to persist.

B4Ever, nailed it! I gotta lay this at the feet of Jarmond: chasing the glitz and glitter instead of failing to recognize the tradition and heritage of the Rose Bowl. When UCLA first cut the deal and left the Mausoleum, it was a strategic move! As you mention, any AD candidate and selected head FB coach would be aware of what was in play here.

Ben Bolch's article on the 64 former UCLA FB members who wrote the letter to Chancellor Frenk contains this quote:

“UCLA deserves an athletic director who understands that this role is not merely about administration, but about stewardship of a legacy — one rooted in excellence, historic achievement, and national leadership. Unfortunately, Mr. Jarmond has not embodied these values, nor has he positioned UCLA Athletics to rise to the standard its history demands.”

Sadly, if you trace the Bolch* articles, you will find an early quote from Frenk who expresses complete support for Jarmond and that concerns me. I hope Frenk has some latitude in his views.

That said, it's Joe's fine "between the lines research" into matters like the RB kerfluffle that make TMB worthwhile! Joe's quote is a case in point..

"It seems safe to say that, unless UCLA’s actions to explore moving to SoFi Stadium were directed by Chancellor Frenk himself, this could potentially be the final straw that seals Jarmond’s fate."

Oh Lordy, one can only hope!

*Not a huge fan of the LAT, I am grateful that they opened up the pay wall and allowed Bolch's work to hit the light of day. Like Joe and Dimitri, Mr Bolch seems to have his finger on the pulse of the UCLA fan base.

Bruin4ever's avatar

Yep, I think Bolch and Plaschke have written some insightful articles that illustrate how dysfunctional the UCLA athletics department is. The AD and his staff need to be replaced by competent folks who will support a culture of both academics and athletics excellence. The prolonged inaction by the administration reinforces the perception that they really don't care. Seeking a move to SoFi Stadium seems like a lazy and costly (not to mention illegal) proposition by someone dumb enough to explore it in order to cover for their own failures in handling the football program and filling the seats at the Rose Bowl. What an embarrassing joke if SoFi ever ended up with tarps covering wide swaths of empty seats!

Tailgating wouldn't be an issue at SoFi with only about 150 Bruin fans attending the game and maybe a total of 100 tailgating. This whole thing is stupid. UCLA has a long-term contract, and they need to honor it. They can get better attendance if they simply improve the football program, which they seem to not want to do! And why move to SoFi? You'll probably only fill about a 1/10th of that stadium. I really am at a loss why UCLA doesn't fire Jelly 2.0 now. He has "stepped in it" so many times, he just needs to go.

For UCLA's "sold out" bowl game at SoFi, the upper level was closed. This is similar to covering up the end zone seats at the Rose Bowl. Artificially reducing capacity to make it look like attendance is a higher percentage is used.

Notwithstanding the legal and financial implications (and sorry this is so long 🙂)...

For perspective's sake, I don't live anywhere near Pasadena and I've missed 3 home games in 30 years... IMHO, the decline in fan passion and participation began when Mora wanted to make the game experience more "professional" - less Soild Gold Sound, more piped-in generic "sports musical bits", banning the Alumni Cheerleader and Band, and the decision to move to the shady side which broke up the Alumni Section 2 community which always led the traditions of standing throughout the game, chanting, "every man, woman, and child" - none of which has ever been recreated... the decline in performance after Rosen got hurt and doomed Mora and chip's outright rejection of promoting the program got us here even before the pandemic.

Given all that, if someone in the UCLA administration thinks that it'd be good idea to be the 3rd priority tenant in an anoydine, generic pro stadium with no parking, difficult access, and no game day experience - and yes, the tailgating and community IS part of what makes college football different (and not just the UFL or whatever The Rock is calling the minor league these days) - I can't imagine why. I do know we'd have no desire to go to a UCLA game at sofi and I can't imagine I'd be the only long-time loyal fan who'd feel that way. There is a lot that needs to be fixed in our program - this would just make it worse. Go Bruins

Every single action Jarmond has taken since COVID has been what seems like a quick fix but really is only addressing the symptoms of a larger problem —institutional arrogance and resistance to change with a head in the sand mentality.

Like most quick fixes, all of Jarmond’s attempts to quick fix a problem have spectacularly blown up in his face. Funny how that works?

I hope the next AD we hire when Jarmond is gone cleans house and runs the department like a business instead of a cost center, but more importantly treats alumni, fans, and the traditions of our sports programs with the respect they deserve.

Also, Tamara, I understand the frustration with Frenk…I don’t have any inside info, but I would be a little bit more patient with him. He understands more than any of us how bad leadership undermines what should be the university’s best marketing tool, having seen it first hand at Miami.

Frenk’s response to the LAT sounds more like the dreaded “vote of confidence” than any serious support. I’d like to think Jarmond will be one his way out soon after the new FB coach is hired.
