Cronin is a round of 32 coach at best. It's time to move on. Had Skyy Clark not hit those ridiculously long treys, I doubt the Bruins get the W.

Move onto whom? The AD is retarded and Cronin has a $20 million buy out. Round of 32 coach? 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 Guess you have not been paying close attention to his Tournament results at UCLA.

Given that Cronin has been past the round of 32 on more than one occasion, that first sentence has already proven inaccurate. If Mick doesn't start playing Mara more than 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for Kyle at the 5, the round of 32 will likely be our exit.

So if Cronin had won the NC a few years back, would he still be a round of 32 coach? After all, you said forget about the past.

Do other schools have to "forget the past" or is it just UCLA? Uconn and Kansas are having down years, maybe they should "move on".

And Arizona is 18-9. Gonzaga is 21-8. Fire the coaches! LOL.

You can run those negative hypotheticals about any game in any sport. It really proves the opposite point - it shows a team that's well-coached and poised can hit "those" (as in multiple) long 3s. Just like only a team that's poised can come run a 2-minute offense to set up a game-winning FG.

I didn’t get to watch the game, but I will give some credit as I fully expected ucla to lose this game. Sounds like cronins hand was forced to play Mara. It’s been his blessing in disguise this year to be forced to play Mara who is arguably the biggest difference maker on the team. Every game Mara plays more than expected it seems ucla wins. I’d be curious if ucla has won every game this year where Mara outplays bilodeau in minutes. Any statisticians that can back that up… I’ll go check as I’m now curious.

Bruinbaskets's avatar

While my statement is too small a sample size to really be valid, the statement is still correct. When Mara plays more than bilodeau, ucla has won every game.

In looking at the stats, it’s safe to say that I actually think ucla might have been a better team without bilodeau. This would have forced cronin to start Mara at the 5 and develop him early in the season. Instead he played bilodeau for upwards of 35 minutes a game even when bilodeau would go 0-7 3-10… those are not the shooting numbers you want to see from your starting 5. Cronin is too stubborn to fix glaring flaws in his game plans.

It’s so frustrating to see this type of coaching behavior that is hindering ucla from being elite. I don’t understand how anyone can look at this issue alone and convince me he deserves to be the ucla coach. His failure to develop Mara this year is something that has prevented ucla from being the best they could be. The ability for those on this site to look the other direction is quite frankly astounding. This type of coaching behavior can’t just be brushed to the side as no big deal… it’s a big deal and a huge reason for the teams inability to become elite this year… PERIOD!!!

The biggest issues with playing Bilodeau at the 5 are defense and rebounding. That's what makes it most surprising, given that Cronin is a defensive coach. We are far better on D with Mara and Kyle at the 5.

DD, outstanding postgame write-up. Thank you 💙💛

If we get a solid 40 minutes of guard play over the next 3 games, and Mara and Perry get their well deserved playing time, I could see us winning out.

Both Mara and Perry will be X factors when the BIG Tourney and the Madness begin. We will need their natural ability to be at its best when its best is needed, if we are going to make a run.

I really don't know what's going on with DA - he is very capable so not sure if it's his confidence or something else that's impacting him. I hope he can resolve, as he is a great kid and talented player 💙💛

But today was a magnificent win and I am happy that Mara brought to life, 'Throw it down, big man' for goodness gracious Heaven's sake alive!

God bless Bill Walton and Lori Walton, and every beloved Bruin who is feeling the pain of losing a loved one... Jim, Terry, Godspeed my dear sweet friends 💔😢🙏💙💛

Hi Tamara. I know you would like to know my wonderful wife of 57 years went home to be with Jesus today. I’m home resting. My two sons were with me the entire week. So blessed. Thank you for your caring and prayers. Blessed it was quick but we had time to share and say good bye. See you Friday evening.

Dear Terry...

What a treasure to have had your sons there with you, by your side, as you said goodbye to your wonderful wife and your sons' loving mother. She is free of pain and will give you strength and love and comfort as you live each day, one minute, one hour, at a time 🙏❤️

I was just asking my mom to please come back for one more hug, just like we always did, just one more hug. And then I saw your reply pop up on my phone at that very moment. Perhaps coincidence, but perhaps somehow we are connected by things far greater than we will ever know...

God Bless you and your family. And may God wrap his loving arms around Pat. She is now at peace and when you feel tired and overwhelmed, she will lift you up, just as she always has...

I am blessed to know you, and through you, your beautiful Pat. Prayers for you and your sons will never stop. You are all in my heart.

❤️🙏💙💛

Hi BMom. Thank you so much for the kind and caring words. So glad to be part of a family that cares. Pat is with God. I can truly say the blessings have infinitely exceeded the heart breaks. God, family and friends have been so good. I’ve had wonderful opportunities to witness to staff and others. They all expressed their appreciation for that. God is great. Blessings to you.

Whining about the coach after a win, and saying stupid shit like if Clark didn't make his shots UCLA would lose, is hilarious. If Thornton didn't make his threes Ohio State would have lost by 20. Going with negative hypotheticals after a win is stupid. But I guess you aim to complain.

Great write up as usual Dimitri. It was a very good second half. If this team could put it together and they all play well they can be a very dangerous team - and if Andrews could get back to last year!! Much better rebounding in the 2nd half thanks to Kyle and Mara. Fewer turnovers also.

Solid post Dimitri, as usual... we really need to focus in practice this week, as Purdue is going to be hungry to make a statement at home this Friday after their loss tonight.

I will say that aside from Mara, Kobe his shaping up to be my favorite Bruin. Even as he doesn't score he plays with great hustle and with that wingspan of his, tipped with Spidey fingers he seems able to quickly snatch rebounds and errant passes from both sides.

Bill Plaschke has an article out in the LA Times about Mick Cronin's temperament and how his behavior will be a lot less tolerable if he doesn't do well next year. What really stood out to me, though, are quotes from Eric Dailey and Skyy Clark defending Cronin:

Clark: “Since my first day here until now, I’ve definitely matured probably the most I have in a season. He’s taught us a lot. He’s taught us about how the real world works and he’s definitely tough on us, and you know, there’s some days we walk into practice and he’s just on us the whole day, but if really you sit back and look at it from a different perspective, you can tell he does care about us and that he’s looking out for our best interest.”

Dailey: “I feel like coach teaches us a lot of lessons that don’t pertain to basketball too. A lot of life lessons, a lot of real-life situations… He’s just a real coach, a real person, and that’s really what you need to survive in this real world… he yells, but everything in the world is not going to be nice and pretty. So I think that’s making us tough for the real world.”

Those are really insightful words from players. Sometimes we wonder if players like playing for a coach like Cronin. Clark and Dailey are both first-year players under Cronin, not returners like Mack and Andrews, so to me, their words carry extra weight - if they didn't like playing for Mick, they wouldn't defend and praise Cronin as a "real" person like that.
