I don't think it's for a lack of effort, as he did lead the team with 6 rebounds to compensate for zero shots made. With multiple options available on offense now, I don't think he really needs to put any pressure on himself to score a lot of points.
But the Bruins defense so far is giving up an average of 67.6 PPG (#64 in the nation), and that's after playing mostly mediocre teams. Last year, their scoring defense finished at #22 (65.2 PPG). Feels different to be concerned more about the defense vs. offense for a HC Cronin team. ;-)
An interesting nail that you have hit on the head B4E. The experiment continues: There is a lot of incongruence/tension between “up tempo Play” (which Cronin’s team is physically built for) and “low 60’s scoring stats” (a stat Cronin has always treasured). You saw signs of the explosiveness this team can have with Dent, Sky and even our front court racing to the basket and either setting up a lob or most times an open three that several of our players are capable of hitting consistently. The “tension” arises because much of Cronin’s defensive philosophy was built on controlling the number of possessions the opposing team got; rebounding, steals, lack of fouls (thus fewer clock stoppages) and A SLOW PACE were all integral to this formula. Now, he is trying to meld the best into both worlds. A difficult task.
Couldn’t watch last night as I was at trivia night at a local brewery and i couldn’t have my phone out and the staff there said “changing the channels isn’t a priority when the bar is crowded” lol
Anyways watched the game this morning and I’m glad to see Dent playing well offensively! He has two games against cupcakes to build on his performance but UCLA’s offense just flows so much better when Dent is a threat to score. And it looks like he’s turning into one of the better perimeter defenders on the team. He didn’t have the stats he had against Gonzaga (3 blks, 1 stl) but he still played good pressure defense. It bodes well when we have to face better guards in conference play.
Jamerson should be starting at the 5. Yeah Booker might be injured but even fully healthy, Booker isn’t half the defender that Jamerson is. He reminds me a lot of Lorenzo Mata with his defense and energy.
Speaking of Mata, congrats to him on finally getting his ucla degree!! It’s always great to see former players come back and complete their classes!
Agreed, you could always see the talent there with Dent, and hopefully the lightbulb has clicked on in his head and he can carry forward this sort of effort and performance.
I have no idea what's going on with Dailey. Consistently inconsistent.
Also ASU going into the game shot 71.8% as a team from the FT line and they went 25/26 last night? If they shot their regular percentage it would've been a bigger blowout. Their performance last night alone pulled their FT percentage to 74%
The good 3-point shooting performance (making 10 more shots than ASU) also helped secure the victory for the Bruins. Their defense still has breakdowns and confusion and they're fouling too much.
I think it was the Men of Westwood. It's goofy looking. Cool thought (anytime to honor "The Wizard" especially while playing Purdue), bad execution, it looks nothing like him. At .least they included the rolled up program in the right hand so we would know who it was supposed to be. Bobblehead artists are terrible. They rarely resemble who they are supposed to. Also, MLB has ruined them with oversaturation. Every Dodger has a bobblehead night, even Decoy.
Funny to hear that it doesn't look like him, but I assume the family and their licensing firm are OK with the idea. Times and attitudes have changed, everything is money driven now. Perhaps Coach Wooden's bobblehead should have his head shaking sideways and have sound capability with his voice proclaiming "Goodness Gracious Sakes Alive!" ;-)
Great, make sure and arrive early to get one! I am not going to defend why I find it insulting to Coach. I guess it's a matter of taste. Enjoy your bobble.
Can't wait for someone to invent a new bobblehead fabrication technique to more closely replicate the real person or thing. Maybe through some combination of 2D-to-3D imaging conversion program and AI to create highly accurate production molds, for instance. Human artists haven't been doing a very good job of it so far...
A lot of humor has been directed at HC Hurley, but isn't ASU on the right track in expecting him to deliver back-to-back national championships, just like his younger brother has done at UConn? LOL
A small take on the bobblehead, it's a free giveaway so that should tell you something right there. Johnny Juzang offered one of himself during his time at UCLA. It was around $40ish and I had to wait several months. It's a pretty decent one. When my brother retired, one of his patients got a bobblehead made of him. It looks exactly like him, but it was also expensive. Unfortunately we fans usually get the poorly made ones because they are giveaway items. Sad but true. Thankfully my Retro Joe bobblehead looks exactly like him.
What's up with Dailey? Some nights he looks like the best player on the floor and others he is an absolute zero. Is it motivation? Conditioning?

Damn. We actually scored 90 points in a game.

Hmm according to Cronin, Booker sprained his ankle in practice
2nd ankle sprain in a week for this team. But Brandon Williams came back from it quickly and looked good last night
I thought the entire bench also looked good last night and coming out with a lot of energy and effort and scoring.

I agree about Dent and Jamerson.
Dent can be a game changer and I hope he emerges as the go to guy along with Skyy.
Jamerson gives us a rim protector and I love his boldness on the court. He just has a presence and natural toughness.
I also like the three guard line-up with Perry, especially if ED continues to struggle.

So did anyone see the bobble head gimmick to 'honor' Coach Wooden on Jan 20th and motivate fans to go to the game.
You have got to be kidding me. I wonder whose idea this was... so insulting.
Smdh 😡

The bobble head looks more like Roy Williams than John Wooden.
Aaaaarrrrrrhhhh! :-)

🤣 I don't like gimmicks and this just seems so hollow. So many other ways to honor him... Posters, t-shirts, hats, etc.
Maybe T, but I have to be honest: I would have bought the sideways shaking "Goodness Gracious Sakes Alive!" bobblehead in an instant.
Yes that would have added the missing class, for sure.
Why is this insulting? I love the idea and bobbleheads are successful giveaways. Haven't seen what it looks like though

No, it doesn't resemble him:

Now that's insulting!
LOL. Coach has blue hair. Interchange insulting with demeaning.

Not a bad business idea, much in the way of Topps baseball cards in the 60's evolving over time into Upper Deck, Panini and Leaf.
Where can I buy a Baskets bobblehead?
I like Baskets and that's 🤣
I just spit my afternoon coffee all over my computer!!!

He and his brother are so crazy they make Mick Cronin look like the Buddha on the sideline.
