How To Watch, Game Preview and Game Thread: #2 UCLA Bruins vs. Indiana Hoosiers
The Bruins welcome the Hoosiers to Pauley Pavilion for the first time since 2018.

Today at Noon PT, the #2 UCLA women’s basketball team hosts the Indiana Hoosiers at Pauley Pavilion. While the game won’t be broadcast, it will be streamed on PeacockTV.com and the Peacock app with Cindy Brunson and Isis Young calling the action. It’s just the fifth meeting all-time between these schools and the Bruins hold a 3-1 lead. The one loss came at home in 2018.
Last Time Out
The #2 Bruins dominated the #13 Spartans on Wednesday. UCLA never trailed once in the game. Lauren Betts scored the first basket of the game for the Bruins. While Ines Sotelo came back and tied it at 2-2 for MSU, Gabriela Jaquez put UCLA ahead for good with 9:06 to go in the first when she made a layup to give the Bruins a 4-2 lead.
From there, they put on a clinic. UCLA led 23-9 after the first. They outscored Michigan State, 21-11, in the second and took comfortable 44-20 lead into the locker room. They kept up their intensity in the third, outdoing the Spartans 22-18 in the period. It was a pair of free throws by Gianna Kneepkens with 1:08 left in the third that gave them a 64-36 lead at the time which sealed the game for the Bruins. UCLA finished the third quarter up 66-38.
While the Bruins were outscored 25-20 by Michigan State in the fourth quarter, it didn’t matter as nothing the Spartans did was going to allow them to over a 28-point deficit in the final ten minutes. UCLA still won 86-63.
Lauren Betts finished with 22 points in just 25 minutes to lead all scorers as four of UCLA’s starters ended the night in double figures. Kiki Rice scored 18, which was also better than anyone on MSU, while Jaquez contributed 13 and Kneepkens added 12.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Indiana dropped a 79-73 final to Southern Cal at the Galen Center.
The Hoosiers are coached by Teri Moren, who is the winningest coach in school history with a record of 260-124 with Indiana. Her Hoosier teams have made the last six NCAA women’s tournaments including an Elite Eight appearance in 2020-21 and Sweet Sixteen appearances in 2021-22 and 2023-24.
Moren will probably start a lineup featuring three guards and two forwards.
Indiana Hoosiers’ Starting Lineup
On the court, the Hoosiers are led by senior guard Shay Ciezki (pronounced Chess-key). Ciezki leads the team in scoring with 24.1 ppg. She achieves those numbers by shooting from long-range. More than a third of her shot attempts come from beyond the arc, and she is making 46.6% of those. She also leads the team in steals with 38. Ciezki has been listed as questionable for today’s game, and not having her would really diminish the Hoosiers already slim chances of winning today.
The other starter averaging in double figures is redshirt sophomore guard Lenée Beaumont. She is averaging 13.5 ppg. She is the team leader in assists with 81, and she has both taken and made the third-most threes on the team. She is one of three players to try more than 100 three-pointers this season.
Freshman Nevaeh Caffey will round out the starting guards. The Missouri native has started every game this year even though she averages just 7.9 ppg. Her 26 steals and 66 assists are good for second and third place on the team, respectively.
The Hoosiers will definitely be without former Bruin Zania Socka-Nguemen, who hasn’t played since the Ohio State game and appears to be done for the year after suffering a foot injury. Before her most recent injury, she had been averaging 11.8 ppg and leading the team in rebounding with 8.7 rpg.
Instead, Socka-Ngueman will be replaced by Edessa Noyan, who will be joined by Maya Makalusky as the Hoosiers’ two starting forwards. Neither of this pair has stepped up to replace the production lost when Socka-Ngueman went down.
Makalusky is averaging 8.6 ppg with just 2.8 rpg overall while Noyan is averaging just 5.2 ppg and 5.3 rpg. Makalusky has played better against conference opponents where she is averaging 10.4 ppg but Noyan has played similarly.
Analysis
The Hoosiers might be able to keep it close for a while if Ciezki is able to play, but expect the Bruins to go buzzer to buzzer if she can’t.
Either way, today’s game should mark the beginning of the easiest stretch on UCLA’s schedule with the next three games at Pauley against unranked teams.

I am loving only 4 turnovers, granted it's Indiana but still, it's an improvement.
