How To Watch, Game Preview and Game Thread: #4 UCLA Bruins at #25 Nebraska Cornhuskers
UCLA visits Nebraska as the Bruins face their third Top 25 opponent in four games.

After destroying crosstown rival Southern Cal last Saturday by 34 points, the fourth-ranked UCLA women’s basketball team returns to action today when the Bruins visit the #25 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Tip-off is set for 4 pm PT.
Speaking of Southern Cal, they are the only common opponent to this point for the Bruins and the Cornhuskers. Nebraska lost to the Trojans at home, 74-66. So, the potential for another big Bruin win is there today.
The Huskers are led by Amy Williams, who graduated from Nebraska in 1998. Since taking over as the head coach of the Huskers in 2016, she has led them to a record of 172-125. She will likely start a lineup today with three guards and two forwards.
Nebraska Cornhuskers’ Starting Five
Nebraska is led by sophomore guard Britt Prince. Prince is averaging 19.1 ppg and she is shooting 51.0% from beyond the arc. Her 69 assists puts her just one behind Callin Hake and she leads the team in steals with 23. Speaking of Hake, the senior averages just 8.4 ppg and she is second behind Prince in steals with 21.
Meanwhile, the third guard will likely be junior Logan Nissley. Nissley has started the last three games for the Huskers. She is averaging just 7.0 ppg but her 49.0% three-point percentage makes her the second-best three-point shooter on the team behind Prince. Over the last three games, she has gotten progressively better. In her first game as a starter, she didn’t score. Then, against Purdue, she put up five points. Against Indiana, she scored 11.
Jessica Petrie will be one of the starting forwards. The Australian junior is second on the team in scoring with an average of 12.3 ppg and she is second in rebounds with 5.1 rpg. At 6’2”, she is one of the taller players on the Huskers. That probably has helped her lead the team in blocks with 18.
The other starting forward is senior Eliza Maupin. At 6’3” tall, Maupin is the tallest starter for Nebraska though sophomore Petra Bozan is also listed at 6’3”. Maupin is averaging 9.2 ppg. She is second on the team in blocks with 12 and third in rebounds with an average of 4.6 rpg.
Look for sophomore forward Amiah Hargrove to also see plenty of playing time today. While she hasn’t started a game this season, she still averages more minutes than Maupin and her stats reflect that. She is averaging 11.9 ppg and she leads the team in rebounding with an average of 6.2 rpg.
Analysis
The Bruins have a big advantage. To put it another way, Nebraska has a size problem this afternoon.
UCLA has three players—Angela Dugalić, Sienna Betts and Amanda Muse—who are all listed at 6’4”. Lauren Betts is listed at 6’7”. Meanwhile, no Husker is listed any taller than 6’3”.
That should allow the Bruins to control the boards all day long, and it should let Lauren score at will. I won’t be surprised if she surpasses the 33 points she scored against Maryland in January 2025.
The only real hope Nebraska has is if UCLA, in general, and Lauren Betts, in particular, get into foul trouble. Expect the Cornhuskers to try to make that happen.
But even if it does, I expect Jaquez, Kneepkens and Rice to put this one away before halftime.
