After beating Wisconsin at home last week, the Bruins are back for this year’s Homecoming game at the Rose Bowl against the Spartans. Kickoff is set for 12:30 pm PT and the game will be broadcast on CBS. After six straight wins to start the season, you really should be at the Rose Bowl to cheer on these Bruins. UCLA football has been this fun since 1998!
This afternoon, the Bruins will play the MSU at the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1966. So, it’s fitting that the Bruins will wear their 1960s throwback uniforms for today’s game. The good news is that today’s game should not be as close as the 1966 Rose Bowl Game, which the Bruins won 14-12.
While Michigan State has played consecutive close games, which they lost by a total of four points combined, the Spartan injury report doesn’t look like this game is going to be very close. It could even be more lopsided than last year’s win in East Lansing.
Let’s look at this week’s Keys to the Game.
Keys to the Game
1. Take What the Spartans Give
Michigan State has tended to play a nickel defense, but switched to a 4-3 defense with a seven-man front against Nebraska. Injuries may determine what the Spartans end up running today. If they play the 4-3, the Bruins should go to the air like last week against Wisconsin, but if they are playing the nickel, they should run it up their guts.
2. Suffocate the Spartan Offense
The MSU offense is plagued by injuries coming into today’s game. They may have to start their third- or fourth-string QB and their third-string running back due to injuries. This could give the Bruin defense an opportunity to just complete strangle and suffocate the Spartan offense, and they absolutely should!
3. Win the Turnover Battle
The Bruins need to win the turnover battle. Michigan State has only picked off two passes all season while UCLA is fifth in the nation with 11 picks. Grabbing a few more will help the offense out a lot.
