Margueritte Aozasa Hired as UCLA Women's Soccer Coach
She replaces Amanda Cromwell, who resigned to take the head coaching job with the Orlando Pride of the NWSL.

In Martin Jarmond’s first coaching hire, the UCLA Athletic Department has done something very un-UCLA-like: The Bruins have hired an assistant coach from another national power.
That’s because UCLA announced the school has hired Stanford assistant Margueritte Aozasa as the Bruins’ next women’s soccer head coach.
Aozasa spent the past seven seasons as an assistant with the Cardinal and helped lead Stanford to National Championships in 2017 and 2019.
In UCLA’s press release, Martin Jarmond said:
Margueritte is a proven winner in NCAA Soccer, having coach Stanford to two national championships in the last five years and five Pac-12 titles in seven years. Her clear ability to relate to, develop and lead young women stood out during the process and we’re looking forward to having her guide this storied program.
Aozasa takes over a program that finished the regular season undefeated in 2021. Unfortunately, the Bruins lost at home to UC Irvine in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, falling short of making the College Cup this year despite being the two-seed in their region.
After the season ended, Bruin head coach Amanda Cromwell resigned and accepted the head coaching job with the Orlando Pride of the NWSL.
Welcome to Westwood, Coach Aozasa!
Go Bruins!!!

I like this hire for a number of reasons. She’s female, young, and comes from a powerhouse (i.e. knows what it takes to win). Go Bruins!
Welcome, Coach Aozasa! Nice to pluck someone from a conference/national rival, too. Their loss is our gain.
Now someone help me with pronunciation. Ay-oh-zasa? Ow-zasa? She does look about a third my age so maybe I can get away with Coach Margueritte?
Anyway, best of luck, coach! Go Bruins!
