Let's Play Two! UCLA Bruins Need a Pair of Wins Today
The Bruins will face St. Mary's in the first game of today's doubleheader. If they win, UCLA will play Cal Poly in the nitecap.

On Friday, UCLA began this weekend’s Los Angeles Regional with a loss to St. Mary’s. Today, the Bruins will pay the price for that loss. That’s because UCLA is now faced with the daunting task of winning two games today in order to remain in the NCAA Baseball tournament.
In the first game, the Bruins will have to face St. Mary’s again. If UCLA can win that game, the Cal Poly Mustangs await in the nitecap.
First pitch for Game 1 is set for 1 pm PT and the game will be broadcast on ESPNU. First pitch for Game 2 is set for 6 pm PT and that game will likely be broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2.
Last Time Out
In case you missed yesterday’s postgame article, here’s how the Bruins survived yesterday’s elimination game against Virginia Tech.
With the Bruins two runs down and just three outs left, Mulivai Levu and Roman Martin hit back-to-back homers to tie the game. A pair of hits by Will Gasparino and Dominic Cadiz gave the Bruins runners on the corners with just one out.
Of course, Gasparino was the only runner which really mattered. It’s why the Hokies moved an outfielder into the infield, but Phoenix Call got the ball into left to score Gasparino and win the game.
St. Mary’s vs. Cal Poly
The nitecap started off well for the Gaels. They got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second on an RBI single by Friday’s hero Jacob Johnson, and then things fell apart.
Cal Poly tied the game in the bottom of the second on a homer by catcher Ryan Tayman. The Mustangs took the lead for good in the fourth when Cam Holland hit a two-run homer to right-center. Cal Poly went on to score four more runs in the inning and the Mustangs led 7-1.
Just in case that wasn’t enough, Cal Poly tacked on five more in the sixth and two more in the seventh to win the game by a final score of 14-1.
