I had thought 31-20 Indiana. Soley based on UCLA's Hawaii performance and given Indiana was a middle to lower Big-10 opponent. No illusions though, I never thought they could actually beat Indiana, again based on the Hawaii game in which they struggled to squeak out a win. And sadly, I think Hawaii will be their only win of the season.
This team will only win 3 games at best this season. They are not very good. I’d imagine once UCLA goes to LSU, Penn State, and Nebraska on the road it’s going to be a bloodbath. I hope that’s not the case but Indiana don’t seem like world beaters and it was over by halftime pretty much. Also, I am not no football guru but the play calling was a bit of a head scratcher specially when the game was “close.”
Sure would like to know what 2 other teams you think they can beat? I don't see any more wins unless they get an upset somewhere along the seasons path. And this team doesn't have the talent or coaching staff to upset anyone. There isn't one team on their remaining schedule they can currently beat, especially if they play like they did tonight. Indiana played well, but that wasn't the story here as UCLA really didn't even play the game of football tonight, not sure what they were playing, it sure wasn't football.
I’m assuming maybe Rutgers and they might pick a win out of luck with another foe! Coming to think about it, you are right I don’t think they can pick up another win.
I hope we don't start dumping on DeSean Foster. The program's issues weren't created by Foster. He wants to succeed more than anyone here. His hiring is symptomatic of much deeper issues within the athletic department and administration. I don't see UCLA winning another game this season. I feel badly that Coach Foster was thrown into a seemingly impossible situation. My great hope is that he proves me wrong.
Chipster Alfraud was disgusting in every way, as a 'coach' but even more so as a person. But yes, Army, look no further than Donut Dan, his brethren Jarmond Jelly and ole Blockhead - a trio of disaster.
I love Coach Foster and believe he has great potential to be an outstanding Coach. He is doing an excellemt job in high school recruiing. So if Jarmonf Jelly has an ounce of integrity, he will let Foster grow and give him the freedom to excel.
Right now, Coach Foster is dealing with ruins. I know I was edtremely positive about this team but I was mistaken 😢
I need to correct something... Jarmond Jelly has no integtity. I agree woth GBruin... Jelly kept Chipster Alfraud and proclaimed his belief in him as the right coach - what a total loser. Jelly is as disgusting as Chipster, Donut and Blockhead. And don't get me started on the fossil that is our new chancellor - no light in sight with that hire.
You are right he is not responsible for the situation but he took the job with his eyes open and knew what he was getting into. He worked on Chip Kelly's staff. Regardless of how he turns out, his hiring was a very bad decision by his boss. He has never even been a coordinator, much less a head coach and his hiring of Bienemy shows poor judgement in my opinion. He may some day be a good head coach but he is in a position that would be a challenge for someone with legitimate experience. It would have made far more sense to hire someone like the guy from Indiana who had demonstrated success as head coach at a mid major. Other than his perceived strength in HS recruiting, what reason is there to believe "he has great potential to be an outstanding (Head) Coach". The situation is what it is, and it will likely be years before UCLA sees football success if ever, and it will like happen under someone else's supervision. This is not a criticism of Foster personally or his potential, but he is completely unqualified for the job he was hired for and now they're stuck for another 4-5 years.
I do not agree that Foster is unqualified as we likely disagree on what qualified means. Foster has great character and he is a winner who has successfully developed players. He has brought back traditions that were lost and connected with the entire UCLA community. In terms of hires, If EB doesn't work out, then Foster can make a change. Foster is smart and he will learn from his mistakes. He is not ego driven.
Chip was the pinnacle of 'qualified.' and how did that work out? Or how about the flameout head coaches like Mora or Toledo or... None of them produced a Rose Bowl Championship. None! Plenty of 'qualified' coaches have failed. Donut and Jelly and the Blockhead have really ruined UCLA
And let's look at Cronin - recruiting a bunch of Euro players that couldn't play and he had a horrible season plus he throws his players under the bus. Yes, he has a great portal class coming in so we will see what he can do. But so far he has accomplished nothing but a fluke final 4, and tons of losses to Arizona and Gonzaga.
I agree with your general argument and the points about the other coaches and the administration. I didn't like any of those hires when they happened although this discussion has nothing to do with any of that. We'll have to agree to disagree about whether Foster is a qualified hire. Unless you know him personally, which I don't, there is no public evidence to support most of your attributive statements about him.
It's pretty frustrating bumping around social media and seeing people laughing at us saying that the B1G Ten is too much for us. No, it's not their precious conference, it's what this team has become. We wouldn't be competitive in the Mountain West this year.
FU forever Chip Kelly for lingering after last season before cowardly creeping onto a lifeboat at OSU, and FU Jarmond for not doing your job at the end of last season by letting Chip keep us in limbo and then having no time to do a proper coaching search, leaving us to hire a guy who just isn't ready to run a power 5 program. Now we have a talent gap thanks to Chip's lazy ass recruiting for years and a big coaching gap because Martin wouldn't make a decision last November.
It's not you, B1G. It's us. And that really sucks.
Absolutely agree that Martin Guerrero and Chip Alford let the UCLA football program go straight down the toilet. The severe lack of talent, a totally inexperienced HC, a mediocre OC hired from the NFL, and a pitiful shell of a defense (after letting U$C steal our DC) will make this season an extremely painful one to forget. One can only hope/pray things will get better in another 4 or 5 years from now...
Unfortunately, hoping to get better in another 4-5 years has been the hope for the last 40 years. I suspect I will long leave this planet never seeing the UCLA football team be a serious contender. Sad.
No one, and I mean, no one should be shocked or surprised. First, UCLA is incapable of competing for talent that can shift the balance of medicority to a basic competitiveness. Two, and when I say I feel badly for Coach DF, I truly mean it because he was put into a situation where he wasn't ready to right a failing program. Note, I said a failing program. I suspect it might work if we had a program that was competitive and operating from a proven-track record system. Sooooo, CDF, lack of HC experience coupled with 30 years of a failed program, results in what we are seeing; more bad football. Three, the failure rests with the administration, including our AD. I get, the football program is broke and the NIL program is a joke. That said, it's why the AD is in a leadership position - to find solutions. Here's my bottom line. How is it that so many schools over the years have been able to turn their programs around in a year or two - Washington for example or Oregon way back when. For me, I will always love my Bruins. However, football is now merely entertainment with no expectations. I sort of now watch the squad like I watch a rec team playing a travel team; have fun, see what you can learn, give it your best shot, and don't get down on yourselves when the score reflects blowouts. You're playing up, so do your best. :P Go Bruins. P.S. Can't wait for MBB
I was just going to give you a like, but your comment deserved more than a nod. You are 100% correct on all points. One does not bring in inexperienced skill to fix a dire situation. You turn to the most skilled individual you are able to find. Foster was the absolute wrong hire, and because of that the problem has become even more systemic and will be so for years to come. There is no way we belong in the BIG 10, to say otherwise is disingenuous. I whole heartedly agree that, for us Bruin die hards, we should not invest any emotion into this season. My only hope is that the prophylactics across town feal the pain as much as we do.
IU was pencilled in as a W for the Bruins en route to a 4-5 win season. Instead, it was the worst home loss to an unranked team in nearly 100 years. The good of this season is that our play finally may produce a mercy rule in college football.
Fly a "Fire Martin" banner.
Is the relentless, overpowering physical play of IU a preview of what we also can expect of B1G basketball?
Totally agree that the AD has to go. And to think that I thought DG was bad. On a scary note, it is rumored that Jarmond is trying to get an extension from Interim Chancellor Hunt before Frenk comes on board. Oh man...I seriously hope that renewing a multi-year contract is not in an interim chancellor's authority.
When does basketball start again?
Like around 50 days😔
Did any of us think it might be otherwise? Maybe closer?
I had thought 31-20 Indiana. Soley based on UCLA's Hawaii performance and given Indiana was a middle to lower Big-10 opponent. And sadly, I think Hawaii will be their only win of the season.
Think Chip knew what this year was going to look like? The most ignominious head coach in the history of Bruin football.
I thought it would be closer because I thought our defense would be more effective.
Welp...
This team will only win 3 games at best this season. They are not very good. I’d imagine once UCLA goes to LSU, Penn State, and Nebraska on the road it’s going to be a bloodbath. Ima say $C for one.
I think they got Fresno State
We should be able to beat Rutgers
Though on 2nd thought, maybe not, since we have to go to NJ
A total embarrassment.
We agree a total embarrassment.

Same here. It's not Foster's fault that Jarmond fiddled while Kelly burned us.
But Foster's got a ways to go to be a legit P5 coach. Hopefully the curve isn't as steep as it looks right now.
Kelly was awful.

Garbers reminds me of Kraft. He’s good I guess but gets picked off a lot.
"Garbers reminds me of Kraft."
The worst insult you can give to a UCLA QB.

So good. Unfortunately, the university of second choice looks to be competitive, which sucks.
Will see. Yes, they beat LSU who were lucky to win their game yesterday.
I don't even expect entertainment, just the company of folks here on the game thread.
Even better said.
Thanks for rubbing your nose in it, Joe.
