Biggest problem of many is the O Line which is as leaky as a sieve. Can not open running lanes and can not protect Nico who apparently needs time to get things done. Nothing to be done about it this year--hopefully our new coaches and AD can recruit and get some decent O line players in the portal. BTW, I am fearful of the committee and Jarmond picking a head coach. Hopefully not a retread but an up and coming head coach with proven success
We'll have to match the financial commitment to roster building that Vandy has done to start the conversation. It is easier to rise and sustain in the B1G than SEC which is probably why Franklin left Vandy for Penn St years ago so he may want to strike while his iron is hot, given how hard it is to sustain success at Vandy...
Me too. I was hoping for a 35-24 or 41-30 type score. Losing with a respectable showing. I know that Indiana is a really well coached and talented team but this was a really poor showing and effort. I 'm not sure what to think now. After scoring 4o points against Penn State and Michigan State I thought we might have had a shot at winning the rest or our games other than Indiana and Ohio State. But then we really struggled against Maryland and looked awful today. We've gone backwards. Nico and the offense had 2 really good games and now 2 pretty bad games. After last week, we made a lot of excuses for Nico, like the offensive line and the play calling, but it turns out that even when he's not under pressure, he makes too many mistakes. He is capable of having really great games and really bad games and his level of play is very inconsistent. He is very athletic but not nearly as good as his handlers think he is. I was very disappointed with the team's effort today and now I feel like we could lose every game left on the schedule, particularly if Nico and the offense don't play better. And from a coaching standpoint, they didn't show up ready to play. From a learning standpoint it was really valuable though in demonstrating just how far we are talent and coaching wise from being a legitimately decent team. We were going to lose anyway, but I felt like we gave up before the game even started. We defeated Michigan State by the same Score Indiana did, but we couldn't even score as many points against Indiana as Michigan State did. There was no excuse for losing 56-6.
The exposing of PSU and the 3-game winning streak may in fact be the only highlights of this lost season, but an upset victory at U$C would really feel good!
Agreed. But remember how we were headed towards a 0-12 season before. The smarmy little turd AD ("Jelly Roll", "The Fetus", "The Room Reader") was exposed by L.A.T.'s Bolch and should be rightly sent packing to some J.C. out on the desolate plains of Kansas or Nebraska where he can attempt to ressurect his pathetic career.
Maybe he can teach auto shop or plumbing or septic tank maintenance.
Let's see if Chancre Frenkenstein has the stones to fire his ass!
Where's Jelly 2.0? Surely, he begged Ben Bolch to keep him out of this mess, to keep
him 'off the record,' as everyone knows it's not his fault.
For goodness gracious sakes, Jelly 2.0 had the brilliance to fire Foster and inspire 3 wins and that's legendary!
I digress to this question that just keeps nagging me...
How in the heck does Indiana go from bottom feeder to super star, without the cache of the big bad Ohio States and Alabamas of the College Football world?
How did little Indiana get the cards to fall their way, getting Cignetti, the unreal talent, the rabid fans?
What's their secret, as it should be our blueprint, not a Committee with Jelly 2.0, his BFF assistant and Casey who still loves retreads like Chipster Alfraud.
Why is UCLA perpetually in this nightmare and can't wake up?
'Strain' needs to be replaced with 'Drain' all the incompetence from this team and Morgan, and bring us to greatness, should be easy right? Ask Indiana.
Indiana used to be a basketball school! I totally agree with you about your reference to a blueprint. UCLA has boosters with big money but they have been ignored through incompetence is what has been shared with me. And the Morgan Center has a hierarchy of incompetent "administrators" that push paper and cover their asses. Check it out sometime.
For UCLA, I think it's competent administrative support, NIL willingness, and an engaged fanbase that will lure a qualified HC to build and sustain a winning football program. Currently, we have an incompetent and lazy AD, donors sitting on the fence, and an empty (tarp-filled) Rose Bowl that make it highly undesirable for any smart/elite HC to take on these major challenges. "Drain" sounds appropriate, as the current AD and his staff need to be flushed down the toilet before anything else.
I think we can lure an up and coming coach if Jelly 2.0 and the Morgan crowd either receive the Drain beforehand or the coach demands the Drain prior to signing.
Chipster Alfraud was a big name who turned into a big 0, so not sure I'm in love with the glam hire.
But a hidden gem could be what we need. Cignetti came from a G5 school in James Madison.
But of course, this is all assuming that Meyers and Peters can takeover the Committee and persuade Wassy to join them...
It's going to be tough as Wassy is not the G5 type. Hope he proves me wrong.
The road map out of this just got more complicated. With all the firings, it's quickly becoming a seller's market. The right up and comer might be the path out of this mess. Sadly UCLA isn't a top coaching position. Firing Marty would do a lot to show the school is committed to change. Bob Meyers and company have their work cut out for them. It's critical they keep Marty in check until we can finally rid ourselves of him.
💯 I truly believe an up and comer is the way to go. It's being able to see the right qualities in a coach, the right character, experience, skills and intangibles. Someone who will bleed Bruin blue and gold.
Meyers and Peters are brilliant, but the huge concern is how the heck are they going to keep Jelly 2.0, his BFF assistant out of the decision and money bags Wassie away from the flashy hire.
Not sure how this is going to shake out but it certainly doesn't help that Frenk is choosing to let this unreal mess playout with all of its inherent risk.
Yes, truly sad and frustrating that the same person(s) involved with Kelly and Foster fiascos are going to be selecting a new head coach. The often used phrase of doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result applies here.. It appears that the only person who can get rid of Jarmond and some of the others on the "new committee" is Julio Frenk. If Frenk lets Jarmond and cronies participate/make the decision on the next head coach, I think we are doomed for the near future (at least until Frenk's retirement).
What an ass kicking. Top to bottom offense and defense a complete drubbing. Talk about a medium-rare steak served well done. This was the prologue. The main story will be surviving games against Nebraska and Washington. The epilogue will be Ohio State. The USC game will be thanking the Lord the Bruin season is over....
Did Jelly 2.0 give the game ball to Skipper for participation?
And did he jet home in First Class with a bag on his head...
Or, did he simply nestle into his own ego and reasure himself that he now heads the Committee of big wigs, and will lead his team in hiring the next 'champions are made here' coach?
My remaining hope is that he's waiting until the season ends to eventually take action. A season-ending losing streak might also help, as AD Martin Guerrero will have nothing left to take (steal) credit for. Crossing my fingers and toes!
A sobering, brutal dose of reality…while the 3-game inning streak was fun, you always had the feeling that if the opponent was able to simply execute the basics of football…blocking, tackling, running, catching, hitting an open receiver…we’d have a real problem. Last week was a wake-up call…Maryland was awful, and somehow the Bruins kept them in the game until the end…two bad teams trying to give each other the game, with the clock running out before the winning team could toss it back to the losers. “Somebody had to win” was never more apropos.
Not to drag the Bruins - they appeared to play hard, but they simply didn’t have any weapons in their bag to fight with; and the Hoosiers appeared to give them a lesson in what “playing hard” really looks like. Back to work…they can beat Nebraska if things break right.
Finally…last week I heard several radio guys lauding the Bruins win streak, and talked of perhaps a competitive game, although I’m pretty sure nobody dared predict an upset. Have to wonder if they were just doing the “every game is great on our network” thing, or they just didn’t see much of the Maryland game. In any case…Go Bruins !
I think Cignetti said it best, and I am paraphrasing: you have to break teams’ will in the 3rd quarter … where they just kind give up… think that’s what happensed today…. I wouldn’t know I stopped watching at half time and refocused my attention on my cruise down the Nile. No need to ruin a vacation
The names and legends of Chipster Alfraud, Steve Alfraud, Martin Guerrero, Jelly 1.0 'Donut Dan,' Jelly 2.0 and his Morgan pals, Blockhead and his weaker predecessor Carne-sell out, will forever live in infamy in the Hall of Shame at our beloved UCLA.
They all deserve a 'BUST' in their honor so we never forget their many contributions to our demise.
A very painful and thorough beating, but I think it was necessary to cure any and all hopium-induced hallucinations about these players and the interim coaching staff. This team is just a mediocre team at best, capable of beating only other mediocre teams when they're competitive. Most of the 2026 recruits had decommitted after DSF was fired, and some of the current players could be expected to transfer after this lost season is over. So, nothing has really changed--UCLA still has to start over from scratch by getting rid of the inept AD and hire a new HC capable of building and sustaining a winning football program. As for the rest of this season, we'll see if the Bruins have any remaining optimism, enthusiasm, motivation, and pride after falling back down to reality, or if this deflating loss is just the beginning of a season-ending losing streak. Anyway, good to have basketball season starting soon and something else to look forward to. Keep those banners flying in the skies and on the black van roaming the streets--I hate jelly donuts!
Shocker! UCLA got cooked by IU. I didn’t expect UCLA to win. I did, however, expect them to execute and compete. They lacked discipline and maturity as the game wore on. As for the unsportsmanlike foul on MM, I have to ask, what was so funny to him…I mean you just hosed your team on a stupid penalty and you’re on sideline laughing it up. Unlike you, the lineman with the foul after you was seen on the sideline sitting down visibly upset by his mistake. As for the coaches, and for anyone who was delusion in thinking UCLA had found their coaches, thank goodness reality was revealed on Saturday. I pray the search committee understands the assignment and hires the right coaches. Love you JN, but you need to earn the OC role through experience - not via the DF route. You have a future - just not right now. Lest one thinks I’m hating on the coaches or players, I am not. They are doing the best they can with what they have. This all squarely rests with our last and current ADs. They have bled the equity associated with UCLA and have done so without a care
Well stated Mike. Jelly 2.0 in many ways is even worse than Jelly 1.0.
But yes, both destroyed the brand and culture that now only lives on in the memories bound to trophies and banners and nowhere near the games being played.
So agree. I unfortunately lived throgh the Donut Dan era. It was so frustrating. I mean, if UCLA isn't going to be competitive in football or basketball, then just stop being a pretender and celebrate the Olympic sport natties. Is anyone aware that UCLA could get up to $75m from the Big10 contract, but because of additional travel, insurance and logistical costs as well as Jelly 2.0's reckless spending, ALL of that money (and then some) will be absorbed with costs and will still leave UCLA Athletics (as a whole) in the Red by at least $30-$40m.
The latest on UCLA's Athletic Department's financial condition:
UCLA's athletics budget is currently in the deep RED. At the end of the 2024 fiscal year, the Bruins faced a $51.85 million deficit, despite receiving a $30 million gift to the athletic department. Over the past five years, the department has spent nearly $51.9 million more than it made, totaling $200.61 million in losses.
People throughout this country have been fired for far less than this fiscal disaster. Indiana provided an excellent demonstration of how far the Bruins need to go to truly be competitive in the B1G.
not unexpected but it still hurts...

I didn't expect them to win, but figured, hoping they'd keep it close, and lose by 7-10 points. Any thoughts on the Vandy coach.
Yes, he used to coach linebackers for us when Rick was HC. I like Clark Lea. I just don't know if we can pry him away from his alma mater.
We'll have to match the financial commitment to roster building that Vandy has done to start the conversation. That's what's so frustrating 😤 the potential is there if only someone competent would unlock it
Infuriating.
There are so many great people who love UCLA and could do an amazing job in serving our Athletic programs...
And yet, here we are being buried by a bunch of gutless, soulless, destructive clowns.
For UCLA, I think it's competent administrative support, NIL willingness, and an engaged fanbase that will lure a qualified HC to build and sustain a winning football program. Two things: We doubled our score in the second half, and they didn't. We covered the spread in the second half!
More than that! We held them to zero field goals. We also forced them to kick off way more than we had to.
🤣
Time to point out to Frenk that Jarmond stated he was responsible the current coaching and level of play of the team.
💯 My questions are...
What a tragic comedy.
"I'm very confident in my ability to hire coaches to win championships. I've done it."
He still needs to "read the room" instead of passing out jelly donuts to save his job.
That quote will live in infamy. What a dumpster fire of rotten jelly donuts.
Bob Meyers & Adam Peters are outnumbered on the Committee.
Champions made here except for football and basketball (last 25 years of BB at least) what a joke
Unless indicated otherwise, I think a large electric shock is necessary to wake up Frenkenstein in order for him to fire the current AD.
I think Frenkenstein fully knows, but chooses to do nothing.

Joe,
Why are the comments locked in the SMQB post?
It was a great post but can't comment.
Thanks for your help.

I took a look at it this morning and you should be able to comment now.
Yes, thank you! 💙💛
Apparently can't comment to the most recent post about Skipper's honeymoon being over. I wrote early in the game thread that I had only tiny illusions about this game but I at least wanted to see the Bruins play with poise and maturity, execute competently, and look like a competitive college football team. Mission unaccomplished. We were out of that game on our second snap. I'm disappointed how lopsided that game was from both a players and a coaching standpoint, but I think it was an accurate reflection on where our program really is right now.
