UCLA will play its home opener tomorrow against the San Diego State Aztecs. It will be the first opportunity for most fans to see the Bruins in person this year.
If you aren’t planning on being there tomorrow, I’m compelled to ask, “Why the heck not?” All the reasons we’ve had for not going have officially been eliminated!
Young, up-and-coming coach who has proven he can win at lower levels of college football? Check!
Chancellor who clearly is supportive of athletics in general and football in particular? Check!
An Athletic Director who is unlike either of his last three predecessors and who clearly understands that the potential UCLA has and is ready to turn things around? Check!
I almost forgot….Not playing this season at SoFi? GIANT CHECK!
So, I have to ask, “What are you waiting for exactly?” I mean, literally everything we’ve complained about for years is now set up for excellence. So, why wouldn’t you come home to the Rose Bowl tomorrow?
Let’s look at the odds, the weather forecast and how to watch (for you out of town folks).
Odds
The Bruins began this week as 8.5-point favorites in this game. Apparently, Bruin fans thought that was too low and the spread now stands at 12.5 points. I was on the Coach Chesney train before the game and I’m all in now. I think UCLA will probably win by double the spread. Take the Bruins and giving the points again this week.
The Over/Under for this game is 54.5 points. After the Bruins almost covered the Over on their own last week, I’ve got to choose the Over this week.
Last week, I took the Bruins and gave the points, and UCLA easily covered the 2.5-point spread. As a result, I’m now 1-0 against the spread this season. I didn’t fare as well on the Over/Under. I took the Under, but UCLA almost covered the Over on their own. So, when you factor in UC Berkeley’s points, the Over won. So, I’m now 0-1 for the year on the Over/Under.
Tailgating and Game Time Weather Forecast
It should be a Chamber of Commerce day tomorrow at the Rose Bowl.
Look for the temperature to be 79° when the parking lots open at 10:15 am for tailgating. Between then and about 3 pm, the temperature will rise to a high of 89° before it finally starts to cool off.
It should dip to about 87°when the game kicks off at 4:15 pm and to about 84° by halftime. It will continue to slowly slide to about 80° when at the start of the fourth quarter. Once the sun finally sets just after 7 pm, expect it to drop into the upper 70s by the end of the fourth quarter.
Let’s take a look at how to watch, listen and stream tomorrow’s game.
