Can do all the analysis of the defense, offense, special teams and coaches of Northwestern. All moot because the only question at this point is the morale of UCLA. Coach Skipper can't turn the program around in two weeks, can't make a silk purse from a pig's ear--there is not the talent to do so. The only question in my mind is can Skipper give the team a big morale/confidence boost so they do not embarrass the team and UCLA?

"The last time UCLA visited Northwestern was 1969."

History lesson time.,

..was a 2LT in the USAF stationed at Offutt AFB in Omaha, NE. Drove out to Chicago with a fraternity brother road tripping from Los Angeles. Stayed at the frat chapter at Northwestern and watched Prothro's team demolish North Worstern, 36-zip. UCLA wound up 8-1-1 that year and ranked 6th going into the SC game. But, trailing 12-7, the refs handed the Toejams a first down on a pass interference call and then a subsequent out-of-bounds gift* and the game.

They ended up ranked 10th but went to no bowl game because for the PAC-8/Big 10 RB agreement.

The next year, UCLA was 6-5 but was within a whisker of being 9-2 and going to the RB. The dropped a visiting game to #1 Texas on a last second TD pass, blown 20-point 4th quarter lead to Oregon, and another last second pass versus Plunkett and Stanford. They throttled the ToeJams 45-20 but the vagaries of college football caused Prothro to move on up to the Rams.

Six years of excitement down the dumper because of bad ref calls and key injuries.

*I don't give a fried frog turd what the LAT photo shows.

1969 ???? Those were the turbulent times. Two prominent figures, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, sadly left us but Lew Alcindor and John Wooden dominated NCAA basketball in unprecedented ways. With two hour time difference, I stayed up late in Madison, Wisconsin watching Bruins demolishing their opponents day in and day out. UCLA basketball utterly transfixed me.

I would gladly pay say $14.99 to watch the game without having to subscribe to a buncha crap like golf and tennis that I don't give a fig about. I wonder if that's a viable business plan? Because right now if I want to watch the game that's my only alternative. I though the B1G was supposed to solve that problem...
