On Thursday night, UCLA snoozed their way through the first half and the game was much closer than it should have been as a result. They cannot afford to do that this afternoon against the Stanford Cardinal.
That’s because Stanford forward Oscar da Silva will be waiting to make the Bruins pay for doing something like that. da Silva leads the Cardinal with 19.3 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game. Just in case da Silva has a bad game, Daejon Davis is still with the Cardinal and he’s averaging 13.1 ppg.
Two of the three remaining Cardinal starters are also averaging in double figures. Ziaire Williams is a big freshman who is scoring 12.5 ppg and grabbing 5.7 rpg. Junior Jaiden Delaire is averaging 10.3 ppg. Freshman guard Michael O’Connor rounds out the starting five.
Look for Bryce Wills to be the first man off the bench for Stanford. The junior guard is averaging 9.3 ppg and is third on the team in assists per game with 2.6. Only Davis and Williams are in front of him.

The Bruins know just how dangerous Stanford can be under fifth-year head coach Jerod Haase. Last season, Stanford ended a 15-year drought against UCLA when they beat the Bruins by 15 points in Westwood.
I think the Bruins will come out stronger than they did on Thursday night because I don’t think Mick Cronin will allow that kind of performance two games in a row, but I do think it’s going to be a battle to the end for this one.
