It's the Bruins vs. the Trojans...on a Monday?
If UCLA has ever played Southern Cal on a Monday night, I’m not aware of it. It’s just another of the weird scheduling quirks that is Big Ten Men’s Basketball.
Tonight, the Bruins head across town to play the rival Trojans.
Following the departure of Andy Enfield after last season, Southern Cal is now coached by Eric Musselman. Of course, Musselman has been mentioned in the past as having interest in coaching the Bruins. If he really wanted to coach in Westwood, he may be a little more motivated to win tonight.
If there is a Bruin who may be a little more motivated tonight, it has to be Kobe Johnson since he transferred to UCLA this season after playing last season across town.
Southern Cal Starting Five
The Trojans are a vastly different team from last season. Gone is the circus that was Bronnie James as are all of the other Southern Cal starters from last season.
Musselman will start a three-guard, two-forward lineup led by junior guard Desmond Claude. Claude is averaging 16.3 ppg and he also leads the team in assists with 79.
Grad transfer Chibuzo Agbo is second in scoring with an average of 11.9 ppg and he’s second in rebounds as well with 4.9 per game. Agbo started his college career at Texas Tech and later played at Boise State before joining Southern Cal.
The third starting guard is freshman Wesley Yates III, who is averaging 11.0 ppg.
Senior transfer Saint Thomas joins the Trojans after starting at Loyola Chicago. More recently, he played for Northern Colorado. Like Yates, he is also averaging 11.0 ppg. He is Southern Cal’s top rebounder with an average of 6.0 per game.
The final starter is transfer forward Josh Cohen who is another of the three school Trojans. Cohen started at St. Francis and later played for UMass. He’s averaging just 7.7 ppg.
