How To Watch, Game Preview and Game Thread: Boston University Terriers at UCLA Bruins
The Bruins dropped out of the Top 25 today after losing to New Mexico on Friday night.
Tonight, the Boston University Terriers of the Patriot League visit Pauley Pavilion to take on the Bruins.
For the unitiated, BU is not the same school which Doug Flutie made famous back in the 80s. That was Boston College (aka BC), which is actually located six miles outside of the Boston city limits in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. On the other, BU is located in Boston itself.
BU has about twice the undergraduate enrollment of BC, even though it tends to be lesser known for its sports teams.
The BU men’s basketball team is coached by Joe Jones, who is in his 14th season with the Terriers. Jones has a record of 218–193 at BU including the team’s first two games of this season, which the Terriers lost.
BU is in the second of two games on their West Coast road trip. Friday night, they played the University of San Diego which is now led by former Bruin head coach Steve Lavin. The Terriers lost to the Toreros, 74-60. They opened the season last week with an 80-72 loss to Northeastern at home.
So, the reality is that tonight’s game shouldn’t be too difficult for the Bruins. That said, Mick Cronin likes to use games like this one to tinker with his lineups and I would expect him to do that again tonight.
Look for Jones to start a lineup of three guards with two forwards. Senior forward Malcolm Chimezie leads the Terriers with 11.5 points per game so far along with 8.0 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, graduate Miles Brewster and sophomore Michael McNair will start at two of the guard spots. These two guys are averaging each 10.5 ppg. Brewster is also averaging 4.0 rpg while McNair leads the team in assists with 3.5 per game.
Sophomore Kyrone Alexander will be the third starting guard. He is third on the team in scoring with an average of 9.0 ppg and he’s second in reboungs with 4.5 rpg. The fifth starter will be forward Matai Baptiste. He’s clearly the weakest shooting of the bunch with an average of just 4.5 ppg.
The bottom line here is simple: Tonight’s game should be an easy win for the Bruins.
