So, the Pac-12 Conference race got more interesting this afternoon when Arizona beat Southern Cal, 81-72. That leaves the Bruins even in the loss column heading into tonight’s game against Arizona State. Now, UCLA needs to beat the Sun Devils to move back into a first place tie with the Trojans.
On Thursday night against the same team that beat Southern Cal this afternoon, it looked like the Bruins who started conference play 8-0 were back. If UCLA can win tonight, next week’s game against Colorado will be an important one because it could determine the regular season conference champion.
But, first, the Bruins need to get past Bobby Hurley’s squad — and it won’t be easy.
When the teams met last month, UCLA needed overtime to get past the Sun Devils, 81-75, on a night when Remy Martin did not play due to the funeral of his grandfather.
The key to tonight’s game will be the Bruin defense. If UCLA can hold ASU under 70 points, more than likely the Bruins win. All they should need to do is play defense with the same tenacity as they did on Thursday against Arizona, but that’s easier said than done.
Of course, having Jaime Jaquez, Jr. score 17 points in the second half would be equally helpful again tonight.

Ahhh... the UCLA that we’ve seen all season is here again tonight. Down 10-0 to start... this is more like it
Kyman is such a liability on defense.
Campbell should not be guarding remy Martin. That’s a recipe for losing
Fire Mick Cronin!
SPTRs up to their usual no good
The shots are falling so far though
Turrble turnover by Riley, then ugly missed layup by ASU
ASU off the a fast start, but UCLA doing a good job pacing them
Nice rebound by Riley
C'mon guys, call the game!
Hopefully ASU can’t keep up this pace.
Cody Riley hustling and looking strong underneath so far... much better than the last two weeks
Verge and Martin are asu only chance to win this game
Get vaccinated!
Jaylen Clark so raw... needs some time to develop
ASU hasn't scored for four minutes
Awesome fast break!!!
Etienne is in.
Great fast break pass and layup
ASU guards push off and get away with it.
JJJ
Martin missing some bunnies
Etienne started to make a nice post-up move, but tripped over his feet; he's got such potential
Neiva in early as Mac not playing up to par
Juzang from outside!
Juzang good three
Asu is quick... lots of speedy guards
UCLA should out rebound asu by 10-15 with their size
Hard to believe, but fg percentage very close-- our 47% to their 45%
Yeah that was a foul.
Jaquez impressing on both sides of the court!
JJJ
Dammit pass
That’s a good stay for cronin... could I be wrong 😂😂
Jaime looks ready to play!
9 turnovers for UCLA is not good
Jules shoulda passed that one
Getting closer Walton is nuts tonight
I’ve been a fan for 50 years, I like Walton, he’s something fresh.
Reffing actually pretty consistent so far
Mac offensive spacing is really bad
Jules from downtown!
Jules with a few threes... Campbell too much a defensive liability. UCLA doing better without him?
Martin can beat UCLA defense all day
Poor 3 point D
UCLA going to have to play d in second half
