Kelly IS trying to get fired apparently. Also a comment on the o-line, IMHO it is the most crucial part of a team. A good one keeps the defense off the field and gets the QB and RBs to make first downs and TDs. It needs a lot of attention in recruiting and coaching. Which is sorely lacking.

Why wouldn't you if you were him ? Getting a handsome pay for being fired ? Only in the land of the brave, home of the free and the con artist.

Regarding our offensive line: writing was on the wall for disappointment when line coach Justin Frye moved on to Ohio State back in 2022. He is sorely missed.

That is exactly how I feel about Chip. A decent run game coordinator. No clue about the passing game. Too stubborn/arrogant to hire a passing game coordinator.

Add on hiring a real special teams coordinator!

You think you got problems?

USC FAN here

I am for benching USC Defense, and either return the ensuing Kick off or start from the 20?

Can you give a Z in Markings or ratings?

In two weeks we have the Extremely Stoppable Force versus the Incredibly Movable Object, with both teams having special teams that I would safely describe as basura.

That game is gonna rule.

It's nice to have a visitor from the "enemy camp" stop by -especially when we can commiserate over mutual stink bomb football situations. Of course, I expect that you all will be climbing out of your yawning abyss far sooner than we will. It's my suspicion that Jarmond -- as good of an AD as he is -- will retain The Wood Chipper so as to not complicate our entrance into the "BO".

Of course, if one does an analysis on the crowds being drawn now at the RB versus what the excitement and fan appeal would be if we flushed that turd bomb and got a coach that *actually* recruited gold-plated guys like you all do and put in place coaches that would mend the gaping holes Dimitri mentions, well..

..anyway, back to wandering in the desert for a few more years.

Don't be a stranger! We may snarl a lot but we really do not bite!

Wow That was almost a Steven Colbert worthy Rant! Before Meanwhile

CONGRATS!

I write this speaking from the heart, I said the day that Chip Kelly was hired, that UCLA would have problems

Why you ask?

Anybody who bails on his team, Cincinnati. After promising some great recruits, continuity, is a flawed coach.

Im a 49ers fan, so you know I was non to pleased when he arrived in San Fran.

Anywho, what happens to the Bruins in the future , time will tell. Best of Luck for both the Bruins and Trojans, both are going to need it

Mark, appreciate the kind remarks. In truth, it is my frustration that occasions these outbursts. That and the great work done by Dimitri and Joe and other who deliver clean, sanitary reportage of the success (and failures) of UCLA's athletic endeavors without all the embroiderery you'd find in the L.A.T. or the O.C. Ragister [sic]. There are some incredibly nice people who hang out here as well: Henry, Tamara, fruithi, Runfastandwin, and the rest.

Again, I encourage you to visit us often. We'd love to get your perspective from behind the 11 FWY Curtain, you know, the deep dark secrets manifesting themselves on Figueroa. You don't need to spill the beans or give away trade secrets but it's great to share experiences without the rancor that usually attends the USC/UCLA rivalry. As a brief background, I was a software developer for 45 years and consultant for 30 of those and sat on many, many interviews with hiring bosses who were USC alums and, in truth, was delighted and surprised at the fraternalism they showed when the saw UCLA on my resume. (Got me hired on a number of gigs and several very good friends long after the employment was over.)

I was not aware that The Wood Chipper was a coach at Cincinnati, was he? But, like you, I was/sort of am a Niner fan. Grew up in the Bay Area ('56-'64) and knew the Piers Dairy family (big 49er sponsors around that time) and my brother and I would go with the Piers kids to the games in Kezar. On one occasion, we got down on the sidelines and got to meet the likes of Bob St Clair, Leo Nomilinee, ad Y. A. Tittle who were huge, huge, and bald respectfully.

Was in hog heaven during the 80s and 90s (sort of) but soured on them when Kaepernick pretty much soured me on pro football with his shenanigans.

If it means anything, I root for USC whenever they play Notre Dame, my fave being their 1974 comeback, 55-24. Bet it still stings the Irish.

See you soon.

*chortle*

Always on top of things, Henry! I used to do that back in the 70s and 80s when John McKay and John Robinson were coaching. I'd bet a C note on the Toe Jams such that winning the wager would mollify my rage. In those days, a win would have me doling out the Jacksons with alacrity. Of course, the only times I had to do that were when McKay lost the last one before he departed (1975) and 1980 and 1982. (I changed jobs in 1983.)

Mark, UCLA'S offense is trash, USC's defense is trash. Who wins the crosstown showdown?
