UCLA could not afford to make tactical mistakes against the Trojans, yet they continually did so en route to blowing an 18-point lead.
Chip Kelly sucks.
Great analysis as always, DD. I really agree with your coaching analysis. The Bruins had a good game plan to start as evidenced by the half-time score. But as Mike Tyson says, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth, and when $c started to respond in the 3rd quarter, our staff had no idea how to adjust. We gave up 33 points in the second half, but like you said, our players didn't get worse. If we hold them to just 4 second half touchdowns, we win that game. I always say line wins games and stupid $c's run game and pass pro won that second half by a lot. What a damn shame.
I also agree that was DTR's best game from start to finish. He's obviously had some higher peaks at times before, like that 4th quarter vs WSU last year, but he was solid from start to finish. But it also says something that in his best game, he still had the same number of TDs as INTs, got stuffed in crunch time (yes, still mostly on the OL) when a first down lets us kick a field goal as the clock expires, and couldn't close the deal in our biggest game of the year. For sure, QBs get too much praise and too much blame, but if DTR becomes the kind of guy who throws 3 TDs to 1 INT and wills himself to pick up 2 yards when we have to have it, then we'll be really something. I always realize that a pretty unfair ask, and he did outplay my expectations this year. I love his toughness and I really hope he comes back next season.
