I'll be at the game in the Rose Bowl tomorrow. I fully expect Colorado to win. And if the Bruins "win", the excitement will be quite muted. A promising start to "turn the page" at the beginning of the season has resulted in a team state that is simply woeful. It's ALL coaching. The players are awesome young men and are just simply being set up to fail by overpaid and undertalented staff.
If Azz/Kelly are still the wombo-combo coaching wreck next year, there will be no reason to go to the Rose Bowl. I swore off UCLA basketball (refused to watch it, didn't give a rat's ass if they won or lost while Alford was at the helm.) I'm nearing that mindset now when it comes to UCLA Football.
Thank goodness Mick Cronin arrived. He's building a team of character. Win or lose, that's a team I can faithfully cheer.

Then it quickly becomes too uncomfortable to watch. I still root for us to win, and we'll be out at the RB for the Berkeley game. Go Bruins!

I simply can't root against the Bruins, but recently woke up in a sweat from a nightmare with the Bruins winning their last 3 games, Kelly remaining, and Azzinaro getting another raise!
Annnnddd. Again the Stanford game was Not a signature win. Dimitri you did not write this but others did. At 3-6 Stanford will lose more games than they win concluding the season. Moving on to UCLA basketball. Cronin makes a lot of good sense. Works his as off. Living in Camarillo love to watch native Jaime Jaquez. Watched him play many high school games. Thought he was a bit short and slow for Div 1. I’m an idiot. Watching his sister Gabriela play basketball too. Signed with UCLA back late October. 5 star player. AND a sweet softball player to watch in the Spring. What a gifted, wonderful family. And don’t forget younger brother Marcos. 6’2’ 245 lbs. Great high school football player. And contributes on the basketball court.
I can’t help but cheer for UCLA, but it’s tough to watch the train wreck that is the Defense. I think the team will win at least 2 of the last 3 games, but I’m over this staff. I think Jarmond has generally done a good job, and the outlook from here is mostly about the financials. Doubt we can afford the current $9M buyout, but maybe we can afford to eat the $4-5M after Jan. With Cronin lifting ticket sales I’m hoping there’s some ability to ditch Kelly.
Otherwise maybe we can trade Kelly to Nick Saban for an OC or DC? Seriously though, I’d be happy to take a chance on an unproven up and coming coach with a smaller salary rather than a big name. I feel like part of the problem with Kelly is he doesn’t seem at all interested in winning or building the program. It’s always about proving how clever he is. I’d rather a hungry coach that doesn’t have millions in the bank and needs to succeed because this is their big shot.
Worst case, I can’t believe we have Chip for more than 6-9 games next year before he’s canned. Maybe he buys this by finally getting rid of Azz, combined with the big dollars in his buyout. It would be frustrating to have to endure another year of this dumpster fire, but the reality is Dan’s Deals have left the cupboard bare.
I agree with most of your ratings by position but as far as the QB position, you're generous. Garbers, I hope isn't Ucla's QB of the future. To me, there isn't anything he demonstrates as a QB that pops off the charts. He's soft, not much of runner and he doesn't read the field as well as one would expect given he's been a QB for a long time. My grade at this position for the future: C-. That's being generous.
If we have to deal with Kelly another year, Ucla's football program should be moved down to Div.II. They might win a championship.
Even with an improved meal program, the football team is not getting better. A lot of the players just don't seem to know how to be highly competitive and play smart on a consistent basis. They're also in a relatively weak conference. Therefore, the entire coaching staff deserves an overall grade that should be no higher than F-minus. Thank goodness SC stinks and that the UCLA basketball season is underway!
