College Football Saturday: Is the Pac-12 at Full Strength?
Starting with the 1:00 pm matchup of Pac-12 north foes Stanford and #22 Washington, it;s looking like the conference will finally be at full strength in week 14, with a bonus game on Sunday.
Saturday Week 14 starts with some early ranked matchups, including the #4 Ohio State Buckeyes visiting the Michigan State Spartans at 9:00am PT. According to head coach Ryan Day, the Buckeyes will be a bit “short handed” due to a COVID-19 outbreak, and even Day won’t be traveling with the team for this game. The team will be tested prior to leaving for East Lansing. Ohio State is looking to meet the minimum requirement of playing six games in order to make it to the Big Ten Championship, so playing this game is essential as they have only played four so far.
A great lunchtime matchup is #12 Indiana at #16 Wisconsin at 12:30pm PT. Indiana has shocked the football world this year, going 5-1 thus far. However, the Hoosiers are down a starting quarterback as Michael Penix, Jr. tore his ACL last week. So, backup Jack Tuttle will be taking the reins and hoping to continue Indiana’s success. Wisconsin has a formidable defense. So, this will definitely be a baptism by fire for Tuttle.
The first Pac-12 game of the day features Stanford at #22 Washington at 1:00pm PT. Stanford had an unfortunate start to the season, going 0-2 and having game three cancelled. They finally got back on their feet last week with a narrow 24-23 win against familiar opponent UC Berkeley, so now the Cardinal travel north to visit #22 Washington. The Huskies are 3-0 with two additional games cancelled. So, Stanford has a tough road game this week. The Cardinal has to find a way to get the ball moving on the ground in order to keep their offense on the field longer and give their defense a break. Third down stops will be the key if Stanford even hopes for a win.
