I really hope that Close realizes she must do something different than how she played U$C the last two games or we will lose again. U$C will rely on a double teams of Betts and strong scoring from Juju which has been successful in the past--no secret. Not going to shut down Juju but she can be slowed down and Betts needs to be able to score quickly or pass out of the double team to the open player who hopefully can put the ball in the bucket. Gottlieb is an excellent coach and has formulated a great strategy against UCLA; Close is a great recruiter but so far, has been out coached by Gottlieb. Today must be different for UCLA to prevail.
Double teaming Betts increases the likelihood some other player(s) are open. Obvious common logic. We have not seen this advantage utilized the last 2 games against SUC.
Other than it's USC, this is a pretty meaningless game. Certainly, you don't want to go 0-3 versus SC. The flip side is both teams are likely #1 seeds. I saw a post today about UCLA losing 71-69 against Houston in the Astrodome. In the rematch, it was 101-69 in the Final Four. UCLA won the game that mattered.
Idk, I believe this game is super important in terms of getting that #1 seed, and also in terms of confidence and all of the other intangibles that are so important to being succesful in the Madness and winning it all. Plus, I can't stand losing to suc, so there's that. Go Bruins!!! 💙💛
