It feels like the tides have turned as UCLA is getting back to winning championships in multiple sports, and basketball and football have great renewed energy. Softball has a good chance to win it all as well!
All and all, we have a lot to be excited about and although it's always amazing to be an alum (2 times), it's also pretty awesome to be a Bruin fan! 💙💛
Congratulations to the Lady Bruins Water Polo team on achieving perfection! Hopefully, the retired phrase "Pac-12, The Conference of Champions" will eventually be replaced by "UCLA, The Campus of Champions" (look out, Stanford!).
Hi! How are you? I've been out the MB loop due to computer problems but they are all fixed. This whole thing with Cal is ridiculous and it sets a bad precedent. Looking forward to football season so can get those awesome game threads going again!
So happy you are back! I am hanging in there, trying to build my freelance writing business. Yep, the Regents held UCLA hostage - either support Cal or can't leave. I never really disdained Cal the way I disdain suc, but I'd say it's getting pretty even.
Yes, Football can't get here fast enough, so the whole gang can be together again! 💙💛
In addition to receiving Calimony, UCLA's "North Campus" should be forced to adopt the Bruins' version of its fight song ("Sons of Westwood") and bear mascots ("Joe" and "Josephine" Bruin). UC Berserkly sucks!
Unless by "revisit in 3 years", the Regents mean increase, extend, etc. I am concerned about the verbiage and vagueness not to mention the overall reason for these required payments. A dangerous precedent has been set and UCLA might be asked to finance Cal Athletics for who knows how long. When Cal joined the ACC (and showed once again their financial ineptitude by essentially joining for free), UCLA should have been off the hook. If Cal wanted compensation, why not sue the PAC12? That's where the problems started. Thanks for listening to my rant. :-)
I agree, UCLA doesn't seem to be completely off the hook based on the open-ended statement regarding "a significant change in revenues and/or expenses for either school, exceeding 10% over 2024-25 projections, UCLA's contribution can be reevaluated by the regents." Seems UCLA successfully left behind the inept Pac-12 administration, but are still handcuffed by an equally inept Cal administration and the UC regents. All other UC schools also compete in a different athletic conference, so it doesn't seem to make sense to penalize UCLA for leaving Cal behind. Just a lot of money grabbing going on...
It is now my understanding that it may be unconstitutional and not legal for the Regents to enforce this travesty. UCLA can fight it in court and worse case, greatly delay the $10M payment. I believe the Regents do not hold any legal authority over athletics.
Yes, the verbage re: change in revenue or expenses is very vague and leaves UCLA in a very vulnerable spot if Regents can enforce which again, I don't believe they can do so legally.
I believe Blockhead could just say 'No' or he could be the weak coward he has invariably been and pass the buck to the new Chancellor.
We owe Cal nothing. It is Cal's problem that they are in a financisl mess with the ACC. They should have stayed with OSU and WSU and made it the Pac-3. They might have won a game or two against the MWC and WCC.
That’s amazing!! I had no idea that we had a good women’s water polo team!! I’ll take it though! Go Bruins
You need to pay attention to more of our sports, then. 😅
I watch a lot of our baseball

Go Bruins!
Maybe The University of Champions? Look what your abbreviation spells….. 😅
Congrats to Coach Wright and his outstanding team. What an incredible season! GO BRUINS!!
(and from a great line on twitter - Wonder if the Regents will make UCLA give a portion of the trophy to Cal?)
Cal should have to post prominently “Cal Athletics sponsored by UCLA”
🤣 Truly mind boggling that UCLA has to keep Cal 'afloat' in the ACC.
Hi BruinMom! 💙💛

The regents want to line their pockets and make sure they’re not responsible if Cal can’t pay for their Memorial Stadium reconstruction debt.
Truth.

Did you mean Cal's North Campus... Our fight song is way better than Cal's in terms of tempo and our band is far superior!
UCLA's "North Campus" = Cal (LoL!)
At least the stupid $10M/year Calimony has been reduced to a 3-year payment term by the Regents...
Ahhhh I get it now! 🤣 Yes saw that reduction which is at least a bit better.
